    year of construction was ~1955.
~1960-1965 he replaced engine with a buick v8 engine.
the motor serial number is: 3J 156 8249
i have no further information about the engine.

can someone tell me what type of engine is in the boat?

    Peter,

Looks like a 215 cubic inch V8 Buick engine, sold to Rover and became the famous Rover 3500 engine.

This engine was also available in Oldsmobile models, and that VIN starting with a 3 could be from an Oldsmobile (Buick starts with a 4)

Take a look at the front of the engine, there should be the VIN number on the right, and also the engine number (followed by a 4 digit production code)

    1961: Buick = H, or LH - Oldsmobile: S
1962: Buick = I, LI or HI - Oldsmobile: S, SE, SG, SH or ST
1963: Buick = JM, JP or JN - Oldsmobile: S, SE, SG, SH, ST

    Peter,

This engine was used in the P types passenger cars (with the spare wheel on the booth), the Rover 3500 passenger cars, a few Triumphs and MG's and Land- and Range Rovers up to not so long ago. (but with an overbore engine size after, I think, 1992)

    Buy this Haynes book:

That JM code identifies it as a 1963 Buick 215 CI V8.
    This engine came with a 2 barrel carburator, 8.8:1 compression ratio, 155 HP @ 4600 rpm, 220 lb-ft @ 2400 rpm.

ich disassembled the carburator beacuse the engine will not start :-(

    pix: www.trilobyte.ch/AG24

last time the engine was running at lower rpm. at higher rpm the ignition cable from one sparc plug has lighted to ground. i thought this was the problem. a few weeks later i added new sparc cables an the engine doesn't works :-((
when i put some petrol direct into the carburator the engine runs a half a second an goes off. what can happend?
