Which MSD box? 6A vs Street Fire

Hi all, I have a 1971 GS 455. For about 15 years I had been running an MSD-6A box w/ Blaster 2 coil triggered by an HEI dist.
I wanted to go back to the standard dist so I switched to Pertronix trigger but now the MSD has decided to quit working.
SO I am wanting to stay with MSD but am wondering what version to it replace with. I do very little drag racing, mostly a street cruiser now.
Was thinking of the digital 6A but when I called MSD the tech suggested that the new Street Fire could cover what I wanted at a lower cost.

Has anyone compared the 6A against the Street Fire on these 455s or have experience with the Street Fire? Looks like about 2/3rd the electrical fire for about 2/3rds the cost. But given a street application would it make that much difference.

    Thanks....

Maybe the Pertronix quit and not the MSD...

You could easily trigger the MSD with points instead of Pertronix; and that setup does not burn up the points.

my pertronix did not get along with my MSD6A and I went back to points, fixed the problem and the car ran better than it ever had, it won't burn points since they are just acting as a switch and if you are not turning it over 5500 rpm you will never have point float

    Thanks for the replys.
Disconnected the msd and the car ran, 3100 mile power tour, on the Pertronix and coil.
Did the msd diagnostic spark test, dead.
Want to get the msd back in operation. Idled and low rpm run better, smoother, and better gas mileage.
Plus it smelled better at cruises.
    Thoughts anyone?

Kurt is right, the MSD won't burn points because they are nothing more than a trigger at that stage. If you suspect the MSD has a problem, send it to them to have it checked/repaired. They have an excellent service department.
