Happy new year to all. I'm in the midst of freshening up my 455, and will be assemblying the oil pump in the next coupla weeks. Yesterday, I noticed that I have 3 different oil-pump covers/oil-filter adapters. One says "Metric," and the thread nipple for the oil filter is smaller in diameter, requiring a filter such as the AC PF-51/52. I assume that's not the one to use. The other two differ mainly in the relief passages, it appears. I don't have a digital camera, so I can't post pics. But one way to tell them apart is that one of them uses two bolts, hidden by the oil filter, to secure the oil-pump cover to the timing cover, and the other one uses just one, covered by the oil filter, with the other near-by bolt being on the outside area of the filter. Any tips/ideas on which one to use?
correct oil-pum cover Dave, well, I'm not awake yet. Forgot to sign my post, and should not have posted it on the small-block forum. Anyway, thanks for responding. What's the reasoning behind using the cover with the one hidden bolt? I assume it has a better by-pass circuit, since that's what it looks like. Yes, I was using the K-B Booser plate, of course. Thanks. Craig Stangohr/Aiken, S.C.
I wouldn't use the first one you mentioned just for the fact that you would have to use a smaller filter. As for the one with two hidden bolts, I've not see that one before and would assume that it wouldn't bolt up right or may be clocked different.
