which oil-pump cover to use?

    Happy new year to all.
I'm in the midst of freshening up my 455, and will be assemblying the oil pump in the next coupla weeks. Yesterday, I noticed that I have 3 different oil-pump covers/oil-filter adapters.

One says "Metric," and the thread nipple for the oil filter is smaller in diameter, requiring a filter such as the AC PF-51/52. I assume that's not the one to use.

The other two differ mainly in the relief passages, it appears. I don't have a digital camera, so I can't post pics. But one way to tell them apart is that one of them uses two bolts, hidden by the oil filter, to secure the oil-pump cover to the timing cover, and the other one uses just one, covered by the oil filter, with the other near-by bolt being on the outside area of the filter.

Any tips/ideas on which one to use?

Use the one with the one hidden bolt. I also suggest too use a booster plate.

    correct oil-pum cover

    Dave,
well, I'm not awake yet. Forgot to sign my post, and should not have posted it on the small-block forum. Anyway, thanks for responding. What's the reasoning behind using the cover with the one hidden bolt? I assume it has a better by-pass circuit, since that's what it looks like.

Yes, I was using the K-B Booser plate, of course.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't use the first one you mentioned just for the fact that you would have to use a smaller filter. As for the one with two hidden bolts, I've not see that one before and would assume that it wouldn't bolt up right or may be clocked different.
