I realize the last one is a non-posi, but maybe at that price it's worth it to buy that and swap the internals, possibly with this http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/pts/527980797.html Also, what sort of prices have you guys paid for your 10 bolt posi rears?
I don't think any of them will do. The first is a 73 Gran Prix. I don't think that is considered an A body, maybe a B body? The second is a G body rear, like a GN. The third is from a 71 Camaro, I believe they had leaf springs in the rear.
The first one is your only option. The Grand Prix is an A-body car but I would ask the seller for measurements (backing plate to backing plate) to be sure.
Jim, 56 1/4" backing plate to backing plate. I thought the 73 Gran Prix was like the 73 and up Regal/Century. Will that still work in a 64-72 A body?, I'm not sure.
Ya, not totally sure myself. Being a '73 I'd be cautious for sure. Seem to remember my 10 bolt measuring 55.5". I'd get the measurements for the control arms as well......or better yet just hold off and find a 71-72 8.5
73 gp would be the closest and is very similar to a skylark is still an "a body" but i think the with was changed slightly you would have to do some measuring and comparing i do believe the spring perches are right, i did use one of these in a g body but pinion angle was a killer to correct offset wheels and custom upper adjustable arms ,it might work but you should get the right one for bolt in if you want custom them go with what you want
NONE...of those rears will fit your 1970 skylark...do not waste your time and money. YOU need 1965-1972 Chevelle Monte carlo Elcamino Olds Cutlas sx F85 442 Gto Lemans Tempest t-37 or Of course skylark gs sedan etc. Hope this helps. Reasons for 1973 not fitting: 1. Cast upper control arm mounts are too wide apart for your control arms to mount. 2 spring perch mounts are not in the correct spot 3. Shock mounts are in the frone not the rear 4. over all rear is wider than your 1970 Just too much to deal with for the price. Reason the camaro and nova will not work: 1. NO control arms of anykind on these rears...they are leaf spring set-up No need to go anyfurther they are WAY too much work unless your drag racing and going to ladder bar the car. Hope you find what you need. If your going to keep the car for a good long time You might want to just order one from me...lol. Or roger too. It will fit your car correct and you will not have to think about whether the old parts will hold. Plus you can choose your gears and posi type and it will look all new etc. I know the money is more BUT if you really break it down into years of service compared to what you might get used...that might be worth the whole deal.
