i have a convertible and i heard hardtop frames are not compatible to work in a softtop. but would a cutlass conv. frame work?
I thought some guys out there were running hard tops with convertible frames. Though all the brake and fuel lines change. I think you can go all the way back to a 68 skylark, though i think the cross member is a little diffrent but works.
1971 convertible frame I don't know the answer to your question but I have a friend who has a 71 convertible frame for sale here in Bowling Green, Ky if that helps?
68-72 A-body (Chevelle, LeMans, Cutlass, Skylark) all share the same frame. Conv trans x-mbrs are the same as well as the ones from 69-72 Grand Prix and 68-72 A-body wagons since those cars also uses a boxed frame between the wheels.
George, The 68-72 A-body wagons and El Camino's have a 4" longer wheel base, so unless unlost wants to add 4" between the doors and rear wheels it won't work. Plus the frame behind the rear wheels is different also. Unlost, You asked "would a cutlass conv. frame work?", the answer to this is yes, a 70 skylark convertible frame is exactly the same as one from a cutlass, lemans, or chevelle of the same year. As a matter of fact they all would carry the same part number and application code letters. The frames that would fit your car best would be any conv frame from a 69-72 A-body conv. The 68 frames will work but are different, and you would have trouble with brake clips etc. Hope this helps. Duane
