IIRC, the Buick Bash is today, and Friday, and Saturday?? My heads MAY be done tomorrow, so I’m out, sheeeeeeeet I wanna hear some 350 times, any runs will do, cheer me up!
Not going to hear one from me I just couldn't get ready, I am just freakin slower than I used to be plus the drought had me working on watering fruit trees, grass and shrubs, and just don't want to make any mistakes. Sorry guys just aint gonna happen this time, really thought I was going to make it. I hope some 350's show up we are really thin, as it is always fun running against those 455's.
Yep, lotta stuff going on this year. Michaels called me on my way home yesterday, my heads are done, so I’ll be picking them up on my way home this afternoon. I HOPE to make it to ANY track this later summer/fall
Picked up my heads from Micheals after work yesterday. He said they’re in good shape, didn’t need guides, which is nice from a cost standpoint AND I prefer iron guides to bronze. I noticed playing around with the TA valves in the guides back in the winter “geez these feel pretty good” I didn’t take any measurements just went by feel, and Mike confirmed it. He also said the springs (TA) are maxed out as far as lift (coil bind) can’t go with any more lift or higher rocker ratio, I have the 1.6 TA rollers, no intensions of changing anyway. I just checked TA’s website and I didn’t see my springs listed anymore for the 350. Makes me wonder if there getting out of 350 stuff 800 bucks just for the labor, they used all my parts from my other heads, no complaints from me, I’m not a machinist, and I respect their knowledge and skill, same as me doing bodywork and paint, it’s a skilled trade, I don’t insult skilled workers by trying to get the price down, I HATE when people do that, NO RESPECT.
He did a great job with my motor and had to rework the heads once as whoever TA had do those heads for me did not do a good job, one valve got stuck on the dyno then later on one of the springs broke and he then fixed both of them with different springs. I had that thing done in 1995 then he fixed my heads 6 months later. Would really like him to redo the entire motor as he has different ways of doing it now I talked to him about a year ago when I went there to get race gas, At least before he decides to retire.
We were talking about that stuff, being older and calling it quits (working) Mike said it’s gonna be awhile for him till retirement, I asked about his Dad, he said his Dad still comes in ( his office with his big Pit Bull, friendly dog) So you have time to break your engine and have Mike fix it Not many reputable machine shops left that are local to us
