Just wondering what your combinations are and how much gas mileage you are getting??
I had a 1970 Buick Skylark with a 350 that i drove every day until the completely rotted trunk, bad shocks, torn interior etc got to me and made me sell it... i believe i was getting about 14 mpg...

I am wanting to purchase another skylark... but i want a lot of power, so I am thinking of going with a 455... i want a/c and it is going to be a daily driver.. what kind of gas mileage are you all thinking i would get?
    what do you get?
    thanks alot for your replies!

    gas milage?

455 800 QJ, 3.08 posi, 71 Skylark, I drive it to work every day, gas in California is high, but now that I got it painted you can't keep me out of it.
I have no idea what the milage is. I won't check.

Driving to Bowling Green I got 13.5 on the highway. (mild 455, 3.42 rear, itty bitty 14" wheels. Turning 3000rpm at 60 mph)
Around town, including track time, I get 10ish, maybe a smidge less.

In the good weather, my car is the prototypical driver, 7 days a week, rain, shine, occasional snow storm in October

When the engine was ~9.6:1 compression with smog heads (455 bored 0.030" over), torque cam, 3.31:1 gears and a Th350, I was getting about 11mpg/16 mpg

Now it's aluminum heads, my cr is back to about 10:1, high lift cam. Engine is apart at the moment, but I'm guessing that gas mileage will still suck, and I still won't care :TU:

The first year I bought my car (I bought it in November) I drove it all winter... not every day, but when the roads were at least semi clear, and I got stuck out in a snow storm at least once. Kinda sketchy on bald rear Dunlop Qualifiers.
It looked like this at the time. I hate the previous owner.

with my stock 350-2, good gas and a bad carb I knocked down 14mpg in the city and around 18-19 on the highway - I drove it to school, too, which was just about an hour away

Now that my current daily is reliable and faster than the Skylark, I dont (read: Cant until recently, that bad carb took me nearly a year to fix :( ) drive it as much. Hopefully will start driving it every weekend now that its summer and its running again. I work 45 minutes from home, so at the price of gas, thats out of the question. Not that my daily gets MUCH better gas mileage, but 22 is better than 18. Maybe once a week or on really nice days.

just do search on fuel economy, it really is all over the place. A lot depends on gearing and engine build. I drive my Riviera everyday and get about 15 mpg, sometimes as low as 13 and as high as 20.

My 72 GS350 has been driven daily since 84. I now have 350,000 miles on it and it's still going strong.

71/72 350-4 in my 68, very mild build. TH350 and 2.56 posi rear, avg high teens, 17-19 on hwy at 70-75. In town no idea, don't want to know, I have a heavy foot when traffic permits. I also drive most any day when it's not expected to rain.

With my old combo, I was getting 12-13 mpg. We'll see how much it improves with the overdrive trans, 200-4R.

I haven't had mine on the road in a while - the mpg I had at the time was around 11.

Now, if I get the holes patched, electical bugs worked out, a top, gas tank, proper Q-jet, and 200r4, I'd drive it daily.

Granted I don't have a Skylark, but a LeSabre w/ a 350 that's my everyday car. I get between 9 and 14 city...depending on my foot and how much it acts up. The 350 is stock, but it's the spiffy high comp one, which I'm sure does nothing to help the milage deal. I basically try not to count milage too often. :TU:

Before I put them away for storage last year, my '70 Skylark 4 Door, 350-2, was getting 18-20mpg, and my '72 GS 350-4, was getting around "12mpg", consistently, as Daily Drivers (Street only, never track raced).

Of course, with the 4 barrel OPEN all the time :3gears: , how can you expect to measure gas mileage? :bglasses:

I watch the Tach needle go to the Right, while the Fuel needle goes to the Left!

I don't know what to expect from the 455 with the Dual Quads! :Do No:

    6 or 8mpg, maybe?:Do No:
