    Oil cooler response

    Hi leviathan

Negative on the cooler to this point. However, as you may recall, I have had cam and main bearing problems resently so I am watching my oil pressure as the engine heats up. The cooler will be the next addition, I just need to figure out how to fit it into the scheme of things with the other plumbing and equipment ergonomics. Thanks for asking.

I thought I would ask, since I'm a curious sort. What do you think of the serpintine belt system. No one has mentioned it and I thought that would be of some interest to some of you belt stretchers out there.

    I noticed it!

The whole accesory/pully system is late model stuff... looks good.
How does it do at high rpm?

BTW love the cool air system. :TU:

I missed that serpentine arrangment,, the frist time. look's great. Bye the way I have a '70 455 that I would like to copy if you have a list of parts I would need to do the same?
    Thanks Dan

:TU: Darn nice piece of work. That was going to be my next question in fact. There was talk of a kit a while back IIRC, was this the prototype?

Next question...(Might as well get `em all out of the way at once) Have you tried ducting the cold air in from the cowl using the wiper gap?

Yup, LOVE the serpentine belt! Where can I get one?

(although I can't see how to get an A6 compressor in there...)

Maybe the Serpentine belt stuff should be in a different thread? I bet that there are other people interested, and they probably won't be looking in a thread called switch-pitch t-400. Just a thought...

    Serpintine belts are the best

    Hey guys:

Thanks for the positive comments. I will try to address your questions as well as possible considering there was a lot of trial and error in getting it right.

    1. This puppy has gone to 7500RPM without a problem of dislodging a belt.
    2. You would need to replace the old compressure with late model, just a
    hose change I believe.
    3. Parts: Look at the frontend of and Chevy 4.3 liter v6 and your major
parts will be looking back at you. The secret is all the specialty
adapters to attach the pulleys, there are 7 items that needed to
be made for it all work. The big problem getting the Water
pump to go the right direction. It runs off the power steering
pump hub via and adapter using a ford air pump pulley.

That little pulley doesn't come close to balancing the weight of the
    Ford 9" rearend though.
    4. Cold air system - I do believe I could have ducted cold air in from the
wiper pocket at the back of the hood, but it wouldn't have been near
as "in your face" and I had all winter to do it. :Brow:

    Hi jamyers

After my last entry I recieved this thread for serpintine belt systems. this ones built for your model years and may be easier to get your hands on.

At what cost? Didn't see that in there, i might have been blinded by the polish all the shiny on those aluminum pullys.

Cold air system supplied by your truly

    70455ht
    Thanks for noticing.

This is a one of a kind system made in my garage late at night.

You take some dryer vent, rap it in fiber glass, a little resin, some bondo and paint, and walla! There it is. Don't forget to remove the dryer vent before using. Just pull the end and the form can be removed in one long aluminum strip. WARNING: Don't cook the two stage or the fiberglas goes hay wire.

This system really gets people bug-eyed when I open the hood. Originally, I painted the system with spray cans and no one seemed to notice. Then I had a local body shop two stage the air cleaner and pipes and the system seemed complete.

Not only does it draw in cool air from the bumper openings for more HP, but it get rave reviews from those who look upon it.

    Thanks for asking.

What kind of results did you find from using that air setup. Any hp #'s or 1/4 mile change?

    Cold air response

    Sean

I have always had some type of cold air system since the vehicle was built. I had only 1, 4" tube at one point the best I did with that setup was 12:17. When I changes to this setup we went 11:98 ET MPH increased from 113+ to 114+.

This system works really well on hot days when your engine compartment is 150 degrees and the outside air is 80 or 90 degrees. Cooler air means a quicker car.

There are other easier ways to get this done, but I didn't want to mess with my hood configeration. Since I have a 78 Regal, and if this system didn't work so well, I believe I would consider taking air from the windshield wipe area at the back of the hood as a possibility. This system is as much for show as it is for go. You would have to see peoples expressions when I open the hood and the see my engine package. :eek2: :jd:

I had to do something special because these regals are in the ugly duckling years of buick design.

    Thanks for asking.
