Why does gear oil stink?

    I think you are right on that Dave---I wouldnt add anything
    to a posi unit except the GM additive and NON synthetic oil. I have never
    had any noise issues---except the tires squealing :laugh: Pete

    lol, rear end oil and tranny fluid made my hair real soft after the shower!!! Now I don't have much hair left...compared to the big hair 80's!! :laugh:

    Oh yes, I nearly chased everyone out of a 20 bay shop changing that stuff. Even the techs were bugging me about how nasty it smells. Going to be doing it again here in about 3 weeks for the next oil change when I reseal the top of the motor and clean some of the carbon out of the intake tract.
    I'm going to check and top off the gear oil in the 'Riv sometime this winter, any particular brand of premixed dino oil with posi additive in it that is preferred? Service manual says not to drain it, just keep it topped off.
