I'm seriously considering purchasing a 1964 Skylark convertible. Always been a Chevy guy but this car might be too good to pass up. I cross referenced some casting numbers and it's a 300 v-8 with 4bbl and aluminum heads/intake. Everything I've read says this is a 335 Wildcat but the sticker on the air cleaner says 355 Wildcat. I've read that a 355 Wildcat did exist and its an 11:1 compression version of the 300 v-8. I'm new to the Buick world and would appreciate some input from someone more familiar with Buicks. Thanks.

Welcome, I am a little unsure what your question is. You say it has a 355 Wildcat decal on the aircleaner but you are not sure if it is a 355 wilcat version of the 300? There will be a two digit code on the block "KP" for the 355 ft/torque version of the 300 if it was really built as a 355 engine.

The only downside to the 355 ft tq engine is the requirement for high octane fuel, sounds like a cool car!

If it is like the big motors, the 355 is the torque rating. The 401cid has Wildcat 445 on the air cleaner and the 425cid has 465.

    Welcome to Buick!

Correct 355 is the amount of foot pounds of torque the engine is rated at.
