Will a Holley work on this SP1?

Someone is interested in trading a B4B for my SP1, and they want to know if their Holley (800cfm I think) will work on my SP1 pictured below. I run a Q-jet and don't know much about the Holley's. Also, are all B4B's the same? Will a B4B take a Holley and Q-jet? Thanks for your input.

    Don,

According to the TA performance catolog the SP stage 1 intake
manifold will accept both holley or quadrajet carburetors.
I would double check this, because the catolog shows two
    different part numbers when ordering.
Give TA performance a call & talk to Mike or Dave.

    Hope this helps.

I don't think it will work without an adaptor.

Don, it appears that your manifold is set up for the q-jet and the Holley, due to the double bolt pattern in the picture, a q-jet requires
a certain pattern, and the holley requires another, however, a holley 4 bbl, carb is the same pattern, wether it's a 650 or a 950, it will change bolt patterns when you get into the Dominator carbs, then it's a new ballgame with the carb and intake. Contact T/A perf. for positive ID, I have been wrong before,But not sure when that was!

I have the same intake, it will fit without an adapter. TA will try to sell you one, as they did to me. Again it will bolt right on and seal no problem.

Doesn't it need some sort of plate to cover the wider secondary holes of the QJ?

I remember when I got my new performer several years ago that it came with a square bore plate, about 1/16" thick. I figured that was to cover the wider holes.

THe adaptor I was speaking about would allow the secondaries to make a smooth transition instead of just bolting the carb flat on top of those gaping holes. And yes, the holley with bolt right on without an adaptor, but you have flow issues, don't you?

    One would think:puzzled:

don, on my 70 stage 1 i ran a holly and a q-jet with no problems. of course you have to have the right base gasket.

Tom, Bruce, 10sec 350, Adam, Steve, 1 bad GS, thanks for the replies. I knew the extra bolt holes were probably for a Holley, but I wasn't sure about the "spreadbore" appearance on my intake. The Holley would be "square-bore" and it just doesn't seem like it would work as well with a spreadbore. Also look at the TA SP1 listed on ebay:

This one looks different than mine pictured above.

    Thanks again for the information.

That's the one made for squarebore (holley/edelbrock). There are 2 (3?) versions of each manifold.

    Spreadbore (qjet)
    Squarebore (holley)

    Is there a 3rd for the dominator?:puzzled:

Either Spread Bore or Square bore carbs will work on that manifold just fine, no need for any special adapters.

I wish everyone would buy the spreadbore version, as it opens up your choices for carbs, and there is absolutely no performance loss using a spread bore or square bore carb with this manifold.

I have taken the Holley flange manifold off customer's car, to go to a spread bore carb..

But they do like a 1" cloverleaf spacer, with a square bore, and either version of the manifold. I have yet to see that be not worth 8-20 HP.. depending on the motor, and how much air it is flowing.

The cloverleaf spacer is made by Dart, or you can make one from a wood or resin 4 hole spacer, by cutting the inside of it out.

I have the square bore pattern. It looks like it would be possible to machine it out for a spread bore. Is that possible?

I am "pretty sure" that's exactly what TA does.

Sure looks like it to me. I would really like to set my new motor up with a Q-Jet first. I know that works. If anyone knows of any problems to making this mod please let me know.

I did this with my B4B many years ago and it works fine.

    Hey Don
If you want to compare the square to the spreadbore style I will be taking mine off of my car this week. The one in the link you posted is like the one I have. Send me a PM or give me a call, My Phone # is in the book.

    Thanks Scott,

I'll give you a call. I have mine off the motor now, I pulled my engine out Thursday night. I'm debating if I should keep the SP1 or go to a B4B for more low end torque? I'm picking up another engine (455 .038 over) on the 28th. My plan is to keep the 3:08 gear, so I'm thinking the B4B would be a better choice? I'm using a 350THM trans.
