Will the Pontiac people plz stand up? I love my Buick but wouldn't trade nothing for my Firebird. I think the Firebird is one the best of that model line you can/could get. [besides the TTA hail to the king] The other models have pick up bad stereotypes over the years but Firebirds are always cool. :bglasses: :beer :bglasses:
My brother has a '66 Catalina 389 4bbl. We are in the process of getting it painted and I designed a cam for it that'll give it some a good deal over the stock one. What size engine is in your firebird??
I've got a 67 Firebird Convertible that will be finished this year. I've owned it for 15 years, but with kids etc. its taken this long to finish it.
I got a 86 [3rd gen] Firebird. 2.8 T5 3:43s It has 68-69 Firebird scoops molded into the hood. Its great on gas but is a screamer if you rev them gears. Its revs so fast n hard, it like a 600 bike. Havn't done it yet but lots of guys run NOS on them now as you can have plenty of gas mileage but at a push of the buton, you have V8 power. course it alreadt faster then stock 305s. It would be just to fast with an 8 all the time. Its plenty fast enough now to kill myself. More would make it way to easy. Most people have no idea whats in it but usualy give up the race when the tires come lose in 2nd. Only did / tried it once but got all 4 lose with two people in the car. But biggest problem is most of the 6s were abused and run like dogs. At one time the Buick 350 in the wagon was gonna go in it but now they have that 500hp 350 project so it may just stay in its place. We have several turbo project going also over at thirdgen.org so the little 60* motor might just start to turn some heads. pace setters just started making us street legal headers too.
Course I will say a stock 60* is a dog with stock temps. redline is not till like 240F and most peoples cars run 200-220 normal. Mine runs at 150-160 with no fan. With the ram air/true cold air, a home made air dam and removal of all the AC crap got me down that low. I know its wrong to run below op temp but it runs like a rape ape down that low and will rev like the dickens. That combined with good rear gear n the T5 stick is a blast. I had a stock V8 camaro once and it was no where near as fun.
Pontiacs, huh! O.K. - here: Dad's - 1965 Catalina Ventura, Black w/Black interior, 421 HO, 4spd, bench, class III trailer tow package, original owner, still his, been off road since 74' 69' Grand Prix Model J, 428 HO, 3spd on the floor, 1 of 3 built. Car bought off of original owner in 78', sold in 84' and scrapped in 85' (OUCH!) Original engine lives on - somewhere. 79 Bonneville 301 2bbl - turd, but a good used car. Bought used, had it about 8 years. 77 GP SJ - 400 4bbl, sunroof, bought car w/98k in 1986, sold in 1992 w/159k, no problems with this one at all! I used this as a college ride. Me: 87 Formula 350, bought w/4400 miles on it in late 90'; car was stolen in early 92', recoved in 11/92 but needed too much (of my limited funds) to be brought back. 72 GP - made into an SJ, 70' 455 HO, M20 4spd conversion, looked beautiful but need more dollars to run the way it should. Owned from 90-94, still around. NOW - 69 GP Model J, 428 HO, 4spd, looked for 12 years to find this one (to replace the 3spd); maybe not this year but will be a pure stock competitor. How's that? I grew up with Pontiacs and hope to hang on to the one I have!
