I did a search but didn't find what I was looking for. My windshield has to come out ( no suprise there ) after new metal has been installed, what are the best layers of rust treatment before the window gets reset. If I go over it with something like eastwood or por 15, can the sealer be applied directly on top? Thanks for any help and suggestions, John

    John,
Are you having someone do this or are you undertaking this yourself?
Strip and clean the surrounding metal all the way around the channel.
After the repairs use a good epoxy primer before any final bodywork and paint. The repair will last many years.

I am going to do it myself. Does the window sealant get dirrectly put on the paint? I won't have a final paint until next year, so what can I paint it with before I lay the glass in? Years ago I had stainless bent up and riveted in and finished. It looked real good when it was done, but I didn't have the car long enough to see how it held up. Thanks, john

    John,
Once the metal work is done and you primer it, you can topcoat with anything. The sealant goes right on the paint.
When you are ready to paint the entire car you can sand it down to primer again and do any tweaking that may be needed.

Thank you very much for your time. That is exactly what I was looking for. John
