    HI,

pretty annoying thing here on my 68 Riviera... Every time I put down one of the two front windows completely and put them back up again the outside chrome bar flips off resulting in scratches and other not nice things.
I tried to fix it with some silicone but it did not work. Any idea why this happens and how to fix? I had the idea of glue it down but this would be then a permanent thing..

    Thanks

    Max

I just reinstalled these on my '70 so it is fresh on my mind. I'm sure the '68 is similar if not the same.
There are 2 small phillips head screws that secure that chrome trim to the door. One towards the front of the door, and one at the very rear. They can be hard to spot because the head can be sunk down into the felt strip.
    You may be missing them.

that sounds like that there is no screw at my side. any chance you can make a picture of the second screw/place where the screw is?

I can tonight when I get home.

One is towards the front leading edge of the door maybe 2"-3" in. The other on the rear end of the door a 1/2" or so.
Obviously you have to roll the window all the way down. Take a screwdriver and probe those areas of the felt strip and you should be able to find the holes for them. Or, since you say the trim lifts off, you may be able to see the drilled hole in the sheetmetal were the inner and outer panels are spot welded together.
I had my interior door panels off when I removed and installed them since I was removing door handles etc for paint prep. Not sure if having the door panel installed will interfere with getting at them or not.

The very small, flat head, philips self tapping screws are hard to find, and access with the door panels on Max.
The window glass may also be covering them. They are imbedded in the felt strip, front and rear as Dale stated.
You may have to go to a larger philips flat head screw, as the originals may be missing, or may have pulled through the holes in the moulding, or the screw holes in the door are too large to allow the self tapping screws to tighten properly. You can also use a shallow, pan head type screw as a replacement. Just make sure the replacement screw heads do not protrude, or extend out far enough to damage the door glass through the entire up 'n down travel. :TU:
