Should have been a straight forward job, I bought the best fuzzies i could from Steele, i think i paid double what other companies are asking (after i placed my order). Anyways I installed them and it was all going good till i got to the corners on the rear quarter windows. It may be hard to see in the photos but major wrinkles are evident and so much for keeping the rain out? They appear to make great water and wind scoops, so just wondering did i mess this up or am i missing something:puzzled:

I did get a good fit between the body and the fuzzie but the corner is a mess.

Again we go 1 step forward and 3 steps back:rant: .....
Anybody have any suggestions or am i the only guy again this stuff happens to.....
    Thanks in advance, Gord

Your pics are very dark...hard to see details.

If that happens to me, I usually back cut the material so I can form it to the contours of the sheet metal skin.

I see what you are talking about. It's the curl in the rubber part right? Almost looks like you had to bend the strip more than it wanted to.

I'm telling you and I've mentioned it many times on this board, these fuzzies are the farthest thing from an exact science as you will find when it comes to trim parts (at least in my experience). Everyone has issues with them no matter who they buy them from. I got mine from Poston years ago and even they had to be slightly worked into position, I even had to snip about an inch off the rear quarter window fuzzies because they were too long.

All this after I previously ordered them from Y1 and they sent me something not even close.

Don't forget, you can adjust your windows to kiss the fuzzies better too after you get the fuzzies mounted if you have any gaps. That curl you have there though looks like a problem.

I'm not even going into the interior fuzzies. :error: That's something I'm not willing to tackle.

The inners are easier to do because the don't have sharp or large bends. The outers always, always, require custom fitting.

All I can say.....you have to work with what is in your hands.....no need to complain because it won't do any good.

I have this to look forward to I guess. These are coming up next on my 69. The weatherstripping. I have the reveal molding so I have to adapt the fuzzies to these strips. I better work on centering my chi first.

here are some clearer pics of the car i am working on (black car) and a pic of my gold gsx (which appears to need some paint work)
that looks alot better in the bend.
The gold car appears to be a different product all together, anybody recognize this manufacturers product?

Thanks for all the replys guys and it looks like I have some more work cut out to resolve the problem.
Now that i have my steering column back together for the 20th time (I finally DIDIT!) I can now concentrate on the window fuzzy issue.
    Cheers Gord

I'm sorry but that is just hideous fit and finish. i don't blame you for being pissed. Are they even for the correct car? I've had to fudge stuff but I do not know how I would begin to fudge something like that. I guess if I had to take a stab at it I would put a relief cut in the center of each curl to get the rubber to lie down, but I think it would look like crap anyway afterwards.

I don't see any solution for the problem other than for the weatherstrip to be manufactured pre-bent and with less rubber in the corner.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these strips are not supposed to create a perfect seal anyway, right? The doors (and quarter panels) were designed to expect some amount of rain to flow down inside then drain out, right? I think I'd simply cut a small "dart" or two out of the excess rubber so it can lie flat. It will look better and still seal pretty good.

Ken, i'm not so much pissed but disapointed for sure, I felt I did an ok job on the inside of the fuzzy and ensured a good seal fit to the body on the outside then when i rolled the window up i had that mess.... I had to walk away. I had been considering relief cuts but this will be my last resort. I would like to adjust the windows but if i have to replace the fuzzies I'll be redoing the adjusting all over..these little things that really should be straight forward really make a guy wonder are any parts correct? Frustrated in the North...Gord

    Gord,

I sent an original set of rear quarter outside fuzzies to repops about a decade ago, so they could use them to make them properly. I have used them many times since, and have found out that what I had originally thought was incorrect.. I thought they were selling Chevelle parts for a buick, but the reality is they are the same. I realized this recently when, just on a hunch, I picked up a set of Chevelle outside strips from re-pops thru a local resto parts outfit that specializes in Chevelles.

Here is the result of that install..

Throw those ones out, there is no hope for them.

I will send you up a correct outer set. I will test fit them to so fit like a glove..

I assume your inside ones that you got from them are ok?

Bert, keep us posted on the fit of those. I just ordered a bunch of weatherstipping for my 69 from TPP. The 68-69's don't have the sharp bend in the body at the rear like the 70-72 folks so I'm hoping to be okay with them.

JIM...thanks for coming to my rescue...
The inside ones are attached to the new panels which i just bought pre-assembled from legendary interiors. I'm praying they are going to be ok but it looks like i better test fit my inside panels now?
So to date now I have a really cheap complete set of Knock off fuzzies for sale (from a few years ago that i just took out of a box) and because I just bought a really good complete set from Steele (at double the price from Parts Place) that included the inside ones (which where on my new panels already) I now have 2 complete sets of window fuzzies for sale... a cheap set and an expensive set....none of which fit our cars.
Thanks for all the help everyone,
    Gord

will do, the car will be at the paint shop for like another 3 weeks or so, so it might take that long to get back on this issue.

Has anyone had any experience with PUI's fuzzies. My cousin gave me a set he was going to install on a 70 Chevelle. He had plans to replace his originals until he saw all that needed to be disassembled to replace them. They look real nice, very close to the originals.

'70-'72 Chevelles and Skylark/GS's have the same roof/quarter window lines, so it seems evident the fuzzies will interchange as Duane indicated. There are more than a few common parts between the Chevelles and Skylark/GS's, especially the roof lines and rear pieces (back glass & trunk lid ...)

JW's look mighty nice Gord. It is really funny how a lot of this Chevelle stuff fits and looks the same for Buicks but the trick is in knowing what does and what doesn't. Like the time I got new exterior door handles for my 69 and got wrong ones from everyone until I ordered 69 Chevelle ones and got the right ones.:Do No:

those are the same ones that i got, when i ordered them from the parts place, the reciept indicated they would be drop shipped from the manufacturer. when they got to my house they are in a box that says pui and inside of that box, they are in another box that says pui.

this evidence leads me to believe thats the manufacturer:Brow:

Someone above asked if i had to bend the fuzzies to conform to the rear vertical area and i believe i did have to. This probably made the rubber buckle so if a anouther year car has less angle they prob will work fine. The quality of the product seemed good but they abviously are just are not my car. I will see who they came from as they were drop shipped and did not come from Steele directly? JW is taking care of me, so its all good now...Gord

Rear window glass and stainless trim for a Chevelle are different than a Skylark....the Chevelle rear glass goes straight across the trunk filler panel while the Skylark version rises in the center....they do NOT interchange.
