Are the windshield molding clips different on a 70-72 convertible or are they all the same??

should be the same for all three years....the trim is the same so the clips should be the same. Patton

Sorry I meant for a HT or Convertible, is it the same as a Vinyl Top car?

still should be the same clips----and on your convert I assume you are only concerned about the "across the top of the windshield" stainless strip. Go to an auto upholstery or body supply place if there's one near you--they may have these clips. Typically, the brand name is "Auveco" and the clips are usually an olive drab color and come in boxes of 100 or so. Two styles I have seen are:

Long one--approx 1" long and 1/2" tall --so rectangular shaped

Short one--these are approx 1/2-3/4" long and the same heigth.

Check and see whats under the windshield trim on yours and you should be able to find them pretty easily. Also--not sure but they may have these in those "HELP" small parts displays that you see at Autozone, etc.

You are probably already aware of it but the "top of the windshield stainless" on your convert is unique to converts--longer than the hardtop pieces--so don't let anyone talk you out of it....not an easy piece to find! Patton

I have the original moldings and had a new windshield put in, I couldn't get the center of the molding to snap on, the outer edges went fine. No matter what I tried it wouldn't go on. To make a long story short, I cracked my new windshield.
Now I need to get a new one. My frustration got the better of me. I still have so much to do and I tried to rush things and not think. Lesson learned........ the hard way:ball:

if anything the new windshield would be thinner than the original windshield. If you didn't try it...try starting at one end and pop each one on as you go.....if you got some on each end to clip it may have left the trim in a "bind" where it wouldn't sit down properly in the middle. Also---pull the trim, flip it over and look at the edge that holds onto the clips---this may be distorted or bent from removing it...and thus it doesn't have a "good edge" to re-attach to the clip. Sometimes this inner edge can get pretty messed up if you had to struggle with the tool to get the trim off that particular clip.

Man--you must have whacked that windshield pretty hard! Also---the trim clips only go on one way---could you have possibly put one on there facing the wrong way?(ie the little bend in the top edge of the clip not facing the right way--thus not allowing it to attach to the stainless). I don't know if it's possible to slip one of these clips on "backwards" but it's worth checking. Patton

I was actually trying to pry the clip foward and up a little bit with a screwdriver. Clips were in the right way too. The glass delaminated and popped a chip about the size of silver dollar which extends about an inch or so below the molding.

    ouch!!!

The clips slip over some little posts that are in the windshield and backglass channels. Sometimes, on hardtops, there will be a couple of the smaller clips attached with sheet metal screws also. Patton
