I am finally about to have my windshield installed now that the channel is repaired but I wasnt sure if i am supposed to have all the chrome trim clips in place BEFORE the glass is installed or after. or does it matter? also, all my clips are good except 2 are a little pitted, any place available to get just a couple of them?

I got mine cheap on e bay, they were the long style clips. I think they went on first but honestly cant remember.

I would put the pins in first, but I have no experience with it. I bought the screw in pins which are a little thicker at the head than the weld in pins, however that should just mean the clips will be tougher to push on, or fall off.

How could you weld / screw new pins in place with the window in the way?

The screw in kind work great and they do go on before the window is set. Just did this a few months back. No sweat.

thanks, So since my factory studs are in would I just grind them down and use screws in their place ??(if i decide to go the screw in route)
If i keep the welded studs in place and use the original clips, i can slip the clips on them with the window in or out but I just wasnt sure if they would get in the way of the new window "goo", or if the goo would get in the way of them. i have the window ready and I was going to have an installer come out and lay her in, I wanted everything ready before hand so we didnt run into any snags

use original studs/clips if your studs are still in good shape. If not..cut or grind or snap them off and use the screws (I got stainless screws)

Yep, they are all in great shape, the rust I had to repair was down near the cowl and didnt affect them.
    Thanks guys

Dont ewaste your time with the screw in type??? IF your studs are good. I have seen the screw in type crack windshileds Like mine. I am going to have the ones with screws repaired the correct way. You can still buy GM NOS clips. There are several types

How do the screw in studs crack the windshield? Like I need something else to concern myself with.

IF the screw makes any contact with the windshield vibration could cause stress crack. Happend to me. I cannot wait to get it out. A good body shop can replace the correct studs. There is a tool that does it.

If the windshield comes in contact with the studs it will also crack. Do the screws stick out further than the studs? I looked at a couple of my parts cars today and they look to be about the same height to me. GM seemed to use both, or my cars have had lots of glass changes. I will say, if you try to remove the screws while the glass is in the car you will break the glass. I did that last week, so I have current knowledge on that subject.

The above comments are from my experience, your mileage may vary.
