Went to get my GS from the repair shop and noticed wipers were up. Cranked car and cut switch on but nothing happening? Mechanic said they had to unplug motor cause wipers wouldn't shut off. Seems I remember years ago that this happened when in the rain once but it later shut itself off. Wipers will work in low speed as well as high buy continue in low speed when you go into the off position on switch. Let car run and tried to get them off for 10 minutes or so but not successful. When this happens, is the switch usually bad? Cost? I did secure a used motor/ pump off a '69 Olds 98 if needed which is identical. Who else has had this occur and what was the needed fix?? Thanks!

    Evans-

do a quick search on this one for some good pics of the problem.

It's usually the ground for the switch. There are two in the same general area under the dash, near the steering column. There are two grounds on the side of the instrument panel/column nearest the door. One's the main, the other's the wiper switch. I'm too lazy to post a link, but if you do a search, some very good clear pics were posted on this very same issue not long ago.

This has happened to me at least three times and once I thought it was the switch. Waste of my time, it was the ground each time.

    Chris,

I did a search under windshield wiper motor and only two archived posts were there. Didn't see the one you are talking about there. Got any other search option word suggestions for me to find that thread you are referring to? Sounds like it would give me some good info especially with pics!

    issue resolved!

Fix was a replacement wiper motor as the old one was shot. Fortunantly, a friend gave me one from a '69 Olds 98 which was an identical replacement. If I would have been a betting man, I would have put $$ on the switch being bad.
