Hey Mike- Try giving Jim W a call directly at Trishield. I'm sure he could answer your questions. First question might be what you plan to do with the car? Cruiser, strip car? Also, what should the rest of your drivetrain be specified at? Torque converter, gearing, etc. Good luck! Sounds fun!
Well...not if you've got a really good tranny, deeper rear gears than original, a posi, 3" exhaust, and really want to scare women and make small children cry... :Brow: :3gears: Seriously, it depends on what you're shooting for: if you want a daily driver-type, I'd think yes, that's overkill, the Level 1 engines would be better suited. While it's easy to fall into the "more HP is obviously better" trap, (I know, since when is more a bad thing???) it'll come at a tradeoff interms of driveability, economy, and breakage-of-other-parts...That said, I'd love one of the Level 2-style engines, but budget and practicality dictate otherwise...Just my $.02... :Smarty:
You would need to also change the tranny to something like a 200R so you can get to the 3.73 recommended rear gear and still use it with ease on the highway. With that combo and even with that heavy car you would hurt some mustang owner's feelings.
THat's what I had in mind. It's just a cruiser though. I think I have ADD. I need to finish painting my control arms but can't stop dreaming of the next thing. uzzled: $12K is way out of my buget too but... :3gears:
Mike, If you are serious about a new engine, and matching #'s don't matter, you should consider this one. But move fast, it ends in about a day. I have been trying to convince my wife that I should buy it and put the motor/tranny in my convertible. The seller is a board member as well (CTX-SLPR), price is currently less than $2k! Find it Here 70 Riv. engine built by Eaker Performance and Restoration in College Station, TX. The tranny is a B&M race preped unit made from a truck case with Corvette or better internals. The engine is a Buick 455 bored .060" over (468) based off of a 74 block and 70 SF code heads. The pistons are flatops with custom valve notches to clear the valves and yeild an approximately 9.5:1 compression ratio with Stage 1 style steel shim head gaskets. The heads have been pocket ported and gasket matched to the stock 70 intake and exhaust manifolds which have also been gasket matched. The heads still sport the "small" SF valves versus the larger SS Stage 1 valves. The rockers are TA Performance 1.60:1 roller rockers and corresponding matched pushrods to the TA 310H Stage II Cheater camshaft. The engine has received the standard oiling mods to help improve the lubrication of the weak stock system and has a new double roller timing chain. The carb is a Holley 770 Street Avenger on a .5" spacer/adapter plate. The carb is jetted for Colorado Altitude, 7500ft and the timing has also been advanced for the altitude. The distributor is a Buick HEI with full MSD conversion, recurve, external Blaster 2 coil, and 6AL box. The fuel system is fed by a Holley "blue" electric pump and regulator. This motor makes over 450 hp and 600 lbft of torque when properly tuned and thats through stock manifolds. The engine should make over 500 hp through a real set of headers!!! The tranny is a B&M race prepped 700R4 with a full shift kit and heavy duty lockup converter. The tranny includes the Lokar TV cable and bracketry, Lokar dipstick and is mated to the block with a steel adapter plate that also protects the block should the converter let go.
cut down travel time I made it home from Hershey to Mars in 3 hours and 10 minutes in my Electra Saturday night, I think with that baby under the hood I could have done even better :3gears:  :eek2:
It's such a nice cruiser. It's very happy around 70 - 80. I'll be happier if the frontend work I'm doing stops it from changing lanes when I tap the breaks. LOL
If I would have bought it, I certainly would not of treated it right. I would have put my # matching 400/400 on the shelf, put this monster 455 and 700R in my convertible, and beat the snout out of it, which means I would have been looking for a 12 bolt in no time when my rear end grenaded like Johnno's did! Then I probably would have had a friend part out the rivy or sell it to someone who had an extra motor laying around. Yep, probably a good thing I didn't buy it............ :3gears:
level 2a Hi Mike i have the first level 2a to come out of trishield Tim Hol has A prototype of this motor too.I ended up with 586hp 580tq ,JW is also building me a spturbo 400 i will be running 3.73 JW is also building a complete exhaust for me to 3.5x 3 xsystem and n-25 tailpipes for GS when i get the car completed i would like to add a gear vendors unit JW said that with the sp it would figure out to be a final ratio of 3.08 or so.I picked my motor up in Salem and couldn't be happier with the detail that Jim put into jusy the apperance.
My father has tons of old 1980s era car mags, and one was a feature on Scotty G (Pee Gee Performance) 69 225 cant remember if 4 or 2 doors but he had that thing running 11.70s with small NOS setup, car looked sick. Would be a helluva sleeper that is for sure. Believe it was CARS magazine, had a feature on 1985 NYC street racing, 396 powered lemans, scottys car, some sick rides. If you want article i can give you a women in York, PA, has tons of old mags if you want it, just ask....
