Just amazes me what a BOP car can accomplish. http://www.philcooper.com/albums/PGDs/TA_run3_low_res.wmv
Not sure but I would guess a 250 kit atleast Here is the original thread http://forums.performanceyears.com/eve/ubb.x/a/tpc/f/1066062811/m/2901076421
I was lucky enough to be at that event a couple weeks ago at MMP...that car finished second ('34 Ford finished 1st), and had *I believe* the 3rd quickest run overall, behind an 8.72 from the aforementioned '34 Ford and an 8.65(?) from the 3rd place Viper. The coolest cars there were the '67 Nova wagon (running an inline 6!) and a '64 4-door Rambler...both were turbo cars, coincidently. Cool event, just wish my time and funds would allow me to join in the fun... ------------------------------------ Hillbilly Racing Team
There were some cars flyin. 2 of my friends were in it. My friend Steve Hoch took 9th in his 68 Vette. His first pass was off but still managed a 9.31. He was also in it last year. He mounted his ignition box too close to his header and had mechanical problems last year. The chase car passed him as he got fired back up. He averaged a 9.11 and would have won the event last year. Wow, some cars really stepped up! Tom Jenkins
Just goes to show, in my opinion GM builds a better street car with the most potential. IMO that ford was so modified its shell is all that was a 32 ford, unlike the Pontiac, Buick, corvette and chevys which was substancially original and heavy. Guess I am just Biased  Well i am hoping to get at least in the 13s with my setup. Others say I should do better but I don't have all the high dollar extras many in that event had.
That's unreal. Did anybody notice how he took off looks like off idle no wasted motion no tires in the air. also looks like he foot braked it. That car is dailed in. with 3.50 gears. :eek2:
Can anybody tell me how these guys are getting by with running high compression 13 to 1 and higher motors on pump gas. Could it be that there using race fuel from a seperate small fuel cell in the front and it's enough to offset using pump gas?
A lot of the cars sounded like they were footbreaking it, especially the turbo cars...and I don't believe any of them are running anywhere NEAR the kind of compression you say. There's no way the engines would live on that compression on pump gas, let alone under boost or on a shot of NOS. I'd say there are a lot of cams bleeding off some pressure...and the cars are THOROUGHLY teched at Comp Cams for extra tanks and what not before the cruise, and then they pull a fuel sample immediately after the 3 runs were completed (which I watched). In fact, they had a special fuel blended for the event which was blue colored and only 93(?) octane, so they knew that EVERYONE was on the up and up or not. You could tell this wasn't their first rodeo...
Lastly video of last years winner going down the track popping and snapping from to much comp and not enough octane on a large dose of nitrous. With a Pat Musi mountain motor. http://www.hotrod.com/eventcoverage/pump_gas_chevelle_lg.mov
water injection is certainly a factor as it really helps to control detonation. Back in england i had a turbo charged car that had bad problems with detonation when the boost was wound up, water injection allowed me to up the boost even further with no detonation.
That Chevelle was there this year, and was probably the only manual tranny car there...in fact, he was running a 5-speed, and it still sounded the same as in the video when he shifted...that was the only car that sounded that way, and the only stick car I saw. So I'd say that popping is more from hitting the limiter between shifts than from too much compression. If the latter was the case, I just don't see how the cars could live through the heat build-up from the cruise, and then put that kinda stress on it at the track. I've busted ring lands from trying to cheat the octane down on a lowly 11.5:1 engine...I can't imagine a 13.5:1 engine could get away with it for very long? But water injection does help...we helped a buddy work on his '81 Turbo Z, and you definitely wanted to keep the water tank full...the only popping I heard from the cars were on their last runs when they were running out of fuel due to only getting 12 gallons for the entire event...
I had heard from two sources that you can run two nitrous bottles. Some guys had nitrous in one and fuel in the other. Don't know if its true but I'm sure a guy could do it. o No:
Here's a video of the I-6 Nova wagon I mentioned earlier... http://release.theplatform.com/content.qtl?pid=oSekybDyoLRZMgIweRb4Ob6NCQRMIF8u&UserName=Unknown
