When I had my Jeep stolen a couple of years ago, it was "recovered" 3 weeks later. Covered with every type of print imaginable, along with an assortment of dents, scrapes, flat tires, etc....... I brought it back from the impound yard, and had it towed to the collision shop. The collision shop is located 3 blocks from our police station. I called the police and informed them the Jeep was down the street from them, so they can get prints and investigate the vehicle. Their reponse was, "Unless your vehicle was used to kill someone, or if someone was killed in the vehicle, it is just between me and my insurance company". And they wonder why people keep stealing stuff..........

Anyways, Mike, guess it's sort of good news that your trailer wasn't packed with your merchandise. Little silver lining to that dark cloud. What a mess.................

Not taking any prints.... WOW, when did this happen. I once had a $200 radio stolen out of my car and the local PD was out there that day dusting:eek2: :eek2:

that was probably back in '91-92... When did it become the "Its Your Fault for owning the stuff, so its not our problem" mentality:blast: :blast:

I feel for ya mike... That sucks :(

Lojak seems like a reasonable investment at this point.

Sorry to hear about that. You may want to stop by Rob's new annex in Arkansas for some good redneck bodywork to fix the damage to the van. Here's one of their loaner/courtesy cars.

Mikey, LOJACK installed in the trailer???

Listen, idea here.... find a popular local TV station that deals with consumer issues. Have a reporter respond. They love these story's of inept cop followup's. Then call the Chamber of Commerce, and tell them a reporter will be interviewing them as well. Then tell the obviously in-cahoots hotel that the Chamber of Commerce, and a TV station will be *going live* with the story about their facility. My daughter worked for CBS-4 here, and she was in charge of these reporter assignments daily.... Trust me bro'... this method works. Good luck.

The police not responding to auto theft is common everywhere.

There was an inept cop story on channel four here in metro Detroit.......

Seems the guy who's lawn care rig was stolen...had seen it and was FOLLOWING it while on the phone to the local police.

    Nothing happened.....no police.....nothing.

One of our club members had his driver car (72 Olds ninety eight coupe) stolen last year. It was spotted at a party store in the ghetto (Detroit) a few weeks later, plates still on it and obviously being driven by someone. His buddy took his two friends (Smith and Wesson), a set of keys, and drove it out of there and home. No one argued with him.

Sometimes good to have friends like that (especially if you live around Detroit).

When the government becomes inept (or apathetic), it's time for the private sector to take over.

Sounds like it's time for the insurance companies to start their own private legal system: investigators, judge, jury, and hangman! As long as they kept their activities out of the public eye (just like the thieves they chase), I don't see why the cops would care; it would give them more time to write citations for all those dangerous speeders out there.

I don't have the plate number here. It is an Ohio plate. 2000 Featherlite, V nose, rear door reads LAGNAPIE RACING TA/JD in ORANGE/CHROME letters. 36" RV style side door. New Goodyear G159 tires on 16' WHITE RIMS with chrome center caps. Drivers side fender is a little mangled from a blow out. Passenger side fender has gash up inside from a blow out on that side, You can only see it if you look up into the fender. The trailer is NOT lined on the inside(bare studs). There is a solar panel in the roof vent. There is a winch inside and a battery in a box. Pit pal fold down shelf unit, oil bottle holder, tie down holders,2 place fuel can holder. Digital clock/weather station mounted front center. Last seen 35E North , 8150 Stemmons freeway Dallas Tx. Van was recovered on Maple Spring 2500 block NW Dallas. My cell phone is 440-452-1234, Office is 1-800-245-0646 9-5 EST. Don't leave a message in my personal mailbox cuz I won't get it till Aug. 2nd. Just leave it on any of the order or catalog request mailboxes and Susan will get it in the morning if after hours. Thanks for any help guys. Mike

By now it could be being used to smuggle Mexicans and drugs over the border.

It's a sad state of affairs when the Police feel that something like this ranks at the bottom of the barrel of the "to-do" list.

I say give Texas back to Mexico and move the border up further. It would be quicker and easier.

While it doesn't surprise me (in Detroit) it would surprise me in a smaller less crime laden community. I think I'd rather go to hell than wake up one morning and realize I was a Detroit cop. Talk about going upstream without a paddle. You guys need Rudy Guiliani in the worst possible way.

I'll tell you, I'm from NJ originally. Not crime free if you know what I mean. I was driving out Rt 80 in Patterson one day and some a-hole cut me off and almost made me go off the road at 70mph.

I got on the cell phone and called the state police. They were willing to have a trooper catch us and pull the guy over for me to file a complaint on the spot. I decided not to only for fear of retribution and in the overall scheme of things it wouldn't have been worth it. The point is though, even in NJ they were willing to address a small issue like that. I know it's state police and not local, but still, stolen vehicles? I can't believe how low that ranks in Detroit and Dallas. I guess they've raised the bar to car jacking, so if their is nobody "in" the car when it's stolen they look at it like a J walking violation. :puzzled:
