OK, not the most exciting part to search for, but I finally landed a nice clean bumper jack for my Riv, and now I'm just a few stupid pieces away from a full complement trunk hardware. I now have the bumper jack, and the wing nut that holds the spare tire down. I still need:

    1. Tire wrench.
    2. Threaded rod that feeds thru the spare tire.
    3. The cup/cap that fills the hole in the spare tire cover.

These pieces are so insignificant that I can't get people who are parting out cars to respond to me. In a way I can't blame them.

Anybody got some of this "junk" laying around? Good to nice condition preferred.

    Thanks.

I believe I have a spare cup, but not a spare threaded rod. My lug wrench is bent, but you're welcome to it.

You didnt mention if you had the spring and wire hook that prevents the black bumper hook from rattling.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

Local yard has a 72 Toronado w/jack set-up.....will it be the same?

    Thanks guys for the replies.

Yardley - What can I send you for the spare tire cover cup? I think I'll pass on your tire wrench, I still have some more time to keep looking.

Jason - Spring and wire? I guess I don't know what I don't know. Seeing as my car's trunk was empty when I got the car I've never seen a complete jack set up. I guess I'll be needing that too!

George - I don't know if a '72 Toro jack set up would share any common pieces. My guess is probably not. I'm thinking much of the trunk hardware would be interchangeable with '66 thru '70 Rivs (and maybe Toros), although "cradle" on the jack would be specific to the profile of the bumpers of any given vintage/model. More knowledgeable folks on here might know.

    Appreciate the help so far!

There is a kind of handle with a hook on it made out of thick wire (imagine a REALLY thick coat hanger). And there is a spring that attaches to the handle and to a little hook on the trunk floor. The tension keeps things from rattling and coming loose.

Dan, the cup is free. PM me your address.

It is rusty, but a good sanding or sand blasting should make it look respectable.

I have a spring and handle that I probably won't use any more because my subwoofer tube is where the jack used to be. The spring is stretched a but, but it is usable and it looks nice. Yours for free too.

Actually free isn't the right word.

All they will cost you is a one year membership in the BPG. We take PayPal.

PM me your addy and I'll get them out to you. I have to find that darn handle... where the heck could I have put that stupid thing.......

Dan, I have to stop smoking crack... my jack hadnle is perfect. It snaps into the holders on the trunk floor exactly right.

I'll send the cup, jack handle and hold down spring. Do you need a jack as well?

All for a $35 membership in the BPG.

Oh, and in a pinch a length of threaded rod from Home Depot or a parts store with a couple of jam nuts and a washer on one end should fit in the little hook under the spare tire. If it is too tall to fit under the hook, then use high strength loc-tite on 1 nut and a washer. That is pretty much all the rod is anyway. Until you find a factory piece nobody will ever see it to know it isn't an exact piece.

    There, your trunk is finished.

PM me your addy (preferrably after you join the BPG).

Er, unless you're already a member in which case this is all free.

If you go to your local Pep Boys, you can find the threaded rod in the Help section. The package even comes with a cad plated wing nut.

Does it look like our OEM rod? Does it fit like it? Interesting.

I cant see a difference between an original and the Help one. I have the Help one in the 70 GS with the oe cup and tire board

    Wow, talk about service!

Yardley - I have submitted my online BPG registration, as well as sent the registration fee via Paypal. I will PM you my address. The wrench, cup, and spring is all I need, I've got a jack. Finally landing a nice one got me motivated to chase down the remaining parts, hence this thread. Thank you so much.

Jason - Thanks for the tip on the threaded rod. I would have never guessed the Help section still carried such an old piece as this. There is a Pepboys near me, I'll check it out.

I can't thank you guys enough. Although my Buick interest is not so much on the performance end of the spectrum that this site seems to be geared toward (I'm just a lowly weekend cruiser) everytime I do stop by and post something here, I get helplful responses.

    Thanks again.

    I'll send it out Monday.

We don't descriminate here. Stock or performance, we don't care. Just as long as we all protect our Buicks.

They make reproduction trunk cardboard if yours are in bad shape. Most are. especially where the jack slides though. I bought a set of repros on Ebay and they fit pretty well. Really dressed up the trunk.

I was wondering how well they fit. Mine were actually usable, and I covered them with carpet anyway.

Actually Jason my trunk cardboards are (suprisingly) in very good shape, but thanks for the tip.

I'm looking forward to getting all of this trunk hardware together. I've been driving around the past couple years with a small hydraulic jack, a generic "cross" tire iron, and a can of fix-a-flat. Thankfully I've never needed to use them!

Just wanted to make a follow up post as I finally picked up the spare tire hold down kit from the Help! section at Pep Boys as Jason had suggested above. Thought I would post the part number here for others to reference in the future, as I came up empty on my first trip to the store and having a part number might have come in handy. It is Dorman #705-100, and the number 41068 printed at the top of the blister pack.

As previously stated the kit comes with the j-hook all thread rod, a cad plated wing nut, and a retaining plate. Unbelievably priced at $5.49.

My token contribution for all the great help I received here.
