I had some kids in what I thought was a Neon challenge me in my 79 Corvette. I almost laughed at them until I heard the turbo on the 4 banger and realized it was a sleeper.
Whats tbe point of saying a 2018 stock turbo 4 cylnder will wipe up a stock 60ies era Buick.? This isnt a 4 cylnder fan club forum. Sure yay 58 yrs later the modern turbo charged tuna can can finaly beat a stock 60ies Buick. Im not impressed.
Sad you can’t beimpressed with what new technology can accomplish. No it is in a four-cylinder fan club, but it is a form that appreciates performance, You can’t even appreciate the performance of the Grand Nationals According to your statement.
I will always support "drive what you like"! That said if you gave me a 9 second four cylinder car I would still drive my Stage 1, or 67 Caddy or Cobra or my next car an E55 AMG. (Gotta pull the avatar sold the V6) The older I get the more listening to a V8 sing and breathe is by far more important than watching your tailights pull away if a flurry of mosquito noises or the V6 "BLLLAAAAHHHHH"! The first test drive of 2019 Camaro with the 4 One item that goes unchanged, though, is the power. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four still cranks out 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, which flows to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual (with no-lift shift capability) and a limited-slip differential. That's still enough ponies and torques to kick this Camaro from a dead stop to 60 miles an hour in 5.4 seconds, according to the folks at Car and Driver, but it's also a good 60 horses less than the naturally-aspirated V-6 that, as of the 2018 model year, cost $1,495 more.
Did you read the test? C&D did not like the turbo four at all. They said spend the extra $1495 and get the V6.
Lol, Surely you have read car and driver enough ever the years not to take everything they say as gospel, I’m not saying it is or isn’t the case with the Camaro, I’m just posting the facts as what a four-cylinder is capable of
Boy, did this thread take a left turn off the original topic. Could someone please alert me when the shifter discussion returns. I'm done clicking on this pissing match over the pros and cons of the mighty 4 cyl.
So, anyway, I was driving one of my hated push button new Traverses this morning, and decided I'd see what happens if you pushed the "R" button while traveling forward (new car, not a customer's). The car will put itself into neutral, at least at the speed I was driving, which was probably about 20 mph. I find this to be a bit of a design flaw, as, you know, kids and passengers never push the buttons presented to them, and I'm sure soccer moms and dads never drive in school zones with a speed limit of less than that........Which would make me want to open the door and jump out of the car, which would cram the brakes and stuff it in park, so it's all good.
So I guess what this all comes down to is that there is no longer a need for a physical connection between the shift lever and the transmission. Everything is controlled electronically so any kind of switch will do the job and that is exactly what we are seeing.
Yep, when it comes to changing it all around (knobs, dash mount, weird pushbuttons) just because they can doesn’t mean they should. If modern technology meant they’re newly able to correct some ergonomic issue or offer a fun new feature (paddles maybe), then yes, but most of it seems to serve no purpose other than ‘golly, lookit that!’. If all I wanted was ‘different’ I’d wear my pants as a hat. Patrick
What kind of shifter is on that so called 4 cylnder camaro. ? is it FWD too. is a 4 cylnder corvett next. with push button shifters? I like the new Datson Z 370, 380. There is a twin turbo one , not sure what yrs.. The old ones are cool too. It is strange being able to reach over and open the passanger door no problem. Notice there is no 4 cylnder in a z. 4 cylnder with push buttton shifter. What kind of person buys a 4 cylnder mustang or camaro. ? You would have to know nothing of the 60ies, 70ies, 80ies 90ies.. Why even have a shifter. ? just drive rev, and park.
I dated a girl back in the late 70's who I described as a push and go driver. She had no idea what the car was about other than getting in, turning the key, pushing on the gas pedal and going. One day she asked me why her car rumbled when she went around a corner. Turns out her tires were low on air. When I told her that, she thought I was pulling her leg. She said tires are made of rubber, you don't need to put air in them. At that point I gave up. Some folks just don't want to know or care.
