The PTO clutch in my John Deere lawn tractor STB after about 10 years of use. I have ordered a new one which should arrive tomorrow or the day after. The issue (to make a short story longer) is to remove the crankshaft bolt that holds it on. There is really no good way to keep the crankshaft from turning. I tried to find a place that would rent me a 1/2" impact wrench with no positive results. I was driving home and appoached a place called LARRY'S PAWN SHOP". I stopped in and found a decent-looking air 1/2" impact wrench for $39. I brought it home. lubricated it, and it works perfectly. YESSSSS!!!
Take the spark plug out and send in some rope. Then you can turn it to the rope and it wont turn. When done pull the rope back out(you did leave a tail hanging out didn't you? Haha)
I did that once when putting new valve seals in my Chrysler Cordoba (which didn't have the rich Corinthian leather). It worked OK, but was kinda a PIA. I really wanted an impact wrench anyhoo. Our Florida house came with a commercial-type air compressor, so now I can accumulate air tools.
And an 80 gallon upright compressor to use with the wrench.... haha. Glad it worked out John, there are times a good impact can be worth it's weight in gold.
