2 of my center caps are in pretty bad shape, half of the metal clip rings are gone and the center is cracked on one. Anyway...... I broke down and ordered 2 new replacements from Year One, quality looks good.

Here's my dumb question (i'll attach a picture), what is the square black pad and square plastic for? Also, what are the 2 metal brackets for? :Do No: They all came in the kit, one set per cap......

i would guess that the metal brackets are used to lock the cap onto the wheel, from the inside, to prevent theft. perhaps the clear plastic piece can be cut in circle to fit between the trishield & the rim of the cap to protect the face of the trishield. the black pad can also be cut to fit against the rear side of the trishield to make it fit tighter against the clip ring, like a gasket.

they should have included a diagram showing how this is assembled. It looks like Mitch Romanowski's repro, and he always includes assy notes and pic when you buy direct from him. Don't know what the square materials are, packing material maybe, to protect the emblem? Were there not bolts and nuts included?

Is that ring with the clips a new one? Or your old one?

The black ring is a new one and yes, it came with 2 extra small bolts (not including the 4 bolts that mount the ring clip to the center cap). These 2 small bolts must be for some sort of locking to the wheel, but no matter how I look at them, I just can't figure out the puzzle. :Do No:

That black & clear piece must have been for shipping protection, but just strange they are different material. They are not large enough to be cut and made round, as they don't fully cover the buick emblem, each corner is exposed.

Guess I'll call Year One and ask for directions, most of us here are pretty mechanical people who can handle much more difficult tasks than this one...... but these pieces just don't jive.

Ok, then it isn't a Mitch R reproduction. His eliminates that ring with the retaining clips. Not sure how you make use of the 2 metal strap pieces, but they look similar to Mitch's kit parts, and the strap goes on the backside of the rim and is bolted thru the rim hole to the cap.

The black "foam" may be used to keep the medallion from moving. I think it goes between the medallion and round ring, no cutting required since it would be unseen. :Do No:

I have my Mitch R installation diagram on my computer at home. Doesn't look like yours though. Does not include the ring with the retaining clips. How long have you had yours?

    David,

I am not sure how old/new this cap is because I got it when I purchased 3 NOS caps 2 years ago (it was part of the deal). It looks like the same parts as the cap shown that came from year one.

I'll have to try to remember to post my version of the diagram this weekend. My caps are about 2 years old. Maybe 3.

    hey Mike..... nice diagram :TU:

I actually figured it out by just using my head (I need all 3 brain cells I have left to work together though).

Would have been nice for Year One to just throw in a cheap copy machine print like the one you posted, then us morons wouldn't have to show the other members of this forum how retarded some of us are....... :Dou:
