Hello again. I have been away for a long time. My 68 Buick LeSabre is still running fine and now has 105000 original miles on it.

I am down to the last item I need to get fixed then it will be 100%! :)

The climate control doors do not respond.

I know they are controled by vacuum hoses and I have 4 leaving through the firewall but 2 are cut off in the engine compartment right at the firewall.

I know that one should go to the heater control valve and I have located that valve but I do not know which one connects there.

The other is some sort of diaphram right? There is an empty screw hole where I beleive that piece went but is now gone.

I also see only one hose going to the vacuum tank and that confuses me too.

I guess the last point is if I splice the old hose to new hose with a small plastic coupler will that decrease or adversly afect the doors action?

    Thanks in advance guys! :beer

    EDIT!
Please ignore the link below... I will go remove it from my profile...:) we all know that HOME.COM is defunct... :(

Where do the other two go? How many ports are on the canister?

those 2 that are still there and connected connect to the bottom of the box that sticks out from the firewall.

I only see one port but wondered if there was another around the side where I cannot see.

    Should there be 2?

Ack, I'll be looking to fix mine soon too, winter is coming, and when the temperature dips below 60, I will want my heat to work!

    What...60 is COLD!

    STOP LAUGHING!

You need a vacuum source, so one must go to the engine. You need one to the canister, it stores vacuum so the vents do not switch on those extended WOT runs. Does not leave one for the heater control valve? Does it have cruise control? You will probably need a vacuum diagram.

There should be a round plastic cannister mounted on the firewall. It stores vacuum for the climate control system. There is a vacuum hose that leads to cannister, from the rear of the carb. This supplies the vacuum. From the cannister, threre is a small vacuum line that leads back to the climate control assembly in the dash. There is another small vacuum line leading from the climate control assembly to the heater control valve. I would locte the vacuum storage cannister, make sure it has a source of vaccum. Then splice the small vacuum line to one of the cut lines. Splice the other small line to the heater control valve. Then see if things work. If not reverse the 2 small lines.

    Thanks guys!

And YEP 60 is cold to a Texan... :)

So I looked again and there are 2 hoses going to the round vacuum canister...

1 big from the carb and 1 small going in the firewall.

4 origianly passed through the firewall and two are cut...

The heater control valve is missing it's hose.

so that still leaves one missing hose and I don't know where it would go.

The car does not have cruise control.

The vacuum canister has a hole with a nipple in the middle where the small hose is attached... there is another identicle hole but sans nipple and I can't see the bottom to see if a nipple used to be there but is now broke..

The big hose connects on the backside.

Is there any vacuum canisters with 3 total hoses?

Thanks again for the great info and the comic relief.. ( my usual role) GafAAA :)
