Yet another mystery wire...

I'm getting ready to button up the dash replacement on my '71 GS Stage 1. Of course, I have the instrument pod out so the wiring harness is in full view.

I just noticed the following terminal that someone had connected with a jumper. There's also what appears to be some sort of a soleniod(?) mounted on top of the clutch linkage that has what appear to be 2 flat terminals that match up with the jumped terminal.

The jumped terminal has 2 fat purple wires going into it, which is a feed for the ignition from what I understand.

Any idea what the terminal/solenoid is for? Ignition cutout for the clutch, ie. car won't start without the clutch depressed?

Whatever it is, it's been bypassed....

    Thanks...

That's a clutch pedal switch so the engine doesn't start until you depress the clutch pedal. The purple wires are for the starting circuit. Just hook it back up & see IF it works. IF NOT it may need a new switch.

The clutch safety switches are available repro. If it doesn't work, I highly recommend getting a new one. Like Tom mentioned, with the switch jumped like that, it will start in gear. Which isn't a problem until the first time you forget to take it out of gear.
