So I am looking for a mostly rust free '70 Skylark body for a project. As a result I spend a lot of time looking at Craigslist ads. A new'70 Skylark ad shows up on Craigslist recently. The car is located in Los Angeles and they are only asking $1000 for it. So I get all excited and call the number on the ad and it turns out to be a salvage yard. I ask about the condition of the body. The woman on the phone says it has "a few pockets of rust on the roof". It's a vinyl top car so I expect the usual problems but I figure it's a California car so how bad can it be? I ask for photos of the rust areas. I get the the photo below texted to me. Holy Crap! There isn't anything left that isn't rust! Needless to say, I am still looking...

    Holy rust particles, Batman.

I remember the words of wisdom in a hot rod magazine that stated whatever rust you could see multiply by 10.
Guess there aint much scrap weight left in THAT car.

I believe you can get an aftermarket roof panel. If the rest is solid it might not be a bad deal for you. If you can get it cheap.
