Good for you to keep after them. :beer Unfortunately many people choose to accept a low settlement because they are uninformed, or too lazy to perform any research.

I have had Progressive for about 15 years now......no complaints.....great driving record........in a friends driveway about 10 years ago, looked up and down the street did not see anything (8 foot tall lite green hedges-bushes) backed up into road in time to get hit on pass side behind rear wheel 86 Stang GT (full coverage).....the other car was a lite green 78 Chrysler something or another.....almost same exact same color of ugly bush-hedge. They sent an adjuster out the same day (it happen early in morning) I told adjuster it was my fault......cut us both checks the next day........then 2011 tornado totaled 2000 Honda Accord they were right there in a jiffy with a check. Some circumstances I'm sure they grimace at, but no trouble for me so far. Steve

The saga continues we're back to square one.

    Over the weekend I drag another car to St. Louis drag the Cobra car back to Florida because my son must have a car for baseball practice and games (he has a scholarship, he's missed 2 weeks already and the coach is getting concerned). I call the claims agent I've been dealing with to get the check from him and;

He says "you moved the car so now we have to reevaluate the damage, I will send an adjuster out later this week or early next week to look at it".

WHAT?????????????? I say "I moved the car because you've been dragging your feet for two weeks and I had no choice and you knew I was doing this but said nothing".

He says "the value of car could be different in Florida than Missouri and we have to adjust the settlement accordingly".

Taking the car to an appraiser and filing in small claims court today.

One of our cousins just gave an ancient Honda minivan to his 20-year old son who is in college in Washington State. This after the kid had the use of the family's totally restored '66 Mustang ragtop all summer.

    Mikey,
It may be worth more in Florida? Have you checked craigslist in the St. Louis / Kansas City / Chicago areas for comparable prices? Obviously, way more salt used on the roads up there in the winters.
But didn't they already settle with you? Hold them to it. Call a lawyer. You are looking for more that small claims here, I think.
On a different subject, where's your son playing ball?

I'm glad it worked out. However, because of their ineptness in evaluating an accurate payout and their sucky service and the length you had to go to actually get someone who gave a rat's ass, not to mention the stress you went through, I wouldn't use Progressive if they were the last insurance company on the planet.

Yea, they said they were sending a check that I agreed to but becasue I'm not having the car fixed in St. Louis they said the hourly rate in Florida might be lower so the claim could be lower and they have to start over. Already have an appointment with a lawyer. My price just went up though for aggravation.
Vince attends Fontbonne University in Clayton MO. A suburb of St Louis. His last outing before summer he threw a 1 hitter. He had the second last batter 0-2 and wasted a pitch a foot off the plate that the guy reached out for and poked over the second baseman. He then struck out the last guy for his 1 hitter. He was elated and heart broken all at the same time

My first go round with Progressive. I've had Cotton States since 1983 and they were spectacular till they pulled out of Florida last year. I will not be renewing with Progressive.

    Mikey,
On your son's baseball, that's great news. I know where Fontbonne is, didn't know they had a program, but I'm 47 now and they may not have when I was younger. My 16 year old son is a pitcher also. He's at Webster Groves High School (St. Louis suburb), and he's hoping to get a scholarship. Hopefully he can increase his velocity some over the next 2 high school seasons or else I don't think he will. His J.V. ERA was 0.00 last season, mostly a long reliever but he did throw one complete game shut out.
Just tell Progressive you'll take the car back to Missouri and won't sue them. Otherwise the car stays in Florida and to get ready for your lawyer to call. They do not want a lawsuit. Tell them you are done playing around, you'll take the car back to St. Louis over the weekend, but you want check in hand on Friday before you take off. After you have the check, you are done with them.
They owe you. You paid for coverage. I went thru 8 years of insurance company BS from being pretty seriously injured as a passenger in a car wreck. I could go on & on about what lying criminals the insurance companies are. The lawyers are just as bad, so if you can keep them out of it you will be better off. Some will take up to 40% of what you receive, so be careful. You may end up worse off financially just for the satisfaction of beating the insurance company.
I wish you luck on this, and hope your son does well!

Fontbonne has an extensive athletic program and some very wealthy alumni supporters that make the scholarships possible. We got a better deal through them than instate tuition here in Florida and the scholarships offered him here. We had offers from four schools but the main reason we chose them is the coaching staff. The kids are more important then their careers and that was so important to me and my son. They keep more pitchers on staff so your son can rest if he needs to instead of ripping his arm out like some coaches do to further their own careers. One other advantage is it is a D-3 NCAA school so your son will have playing time and experience and can transfer to a D-1 school without having to take the mandatory year off when transferring from one D-1 to another. If your son attends a D-1 right out of high school he will sit the bench for two years not gaining work and experience. Fontbonne also has an extensive watchdog program to insure your son exceeds academically. It is virtually impossible not to succeed academically there. You should make an appointment and see head coach Ryan Goode (great guy) They are in the process of building a championship team and are looking for pitchers.

Good point about taking the car back to St Louis. I will bring that up when they call today....

I have had good and bad insurance company experiences. When I was a stupid teen-ager, my GS and another kid's car collided at an intersection. We were both responsible--I don't think the cops gave either of us a ticket. Luckily, we both had the same insurance company--State Farm, which apparently had a policy that resulted in payouts to both of us. IIRC, the damage estimate on my car was over $300--grille was destroyed, and fenders pushed back so doors wouldn't open. They said my car was only worth $300, and had been declared totaled. They gave me a check for $300 and said that because my car was "totaled" I could keep it if I wanted. I said "Sounds good, I want to keep it." It cost me about $400 to put the car back to pre-crash condition. I had only paid $300 for the car in the first place, when I bought it a year before at the local Buick dealership.

So I bought the car for $300, wrecked it and received $300 in compensation, and got to keep the car. I was happy.

Of course, a year later, State Farm canceled my insurance for other reasons--too many traffic tickets, so I had to go hunting for "high risk insurance." (Like I said, I was a stupid teen-ager.)

Call Guinness, alert the media, news flash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Progressive just called. They want to reimburse me for expenses incurred to go to St. Louis to get the cobra and the storage/towing fees. I had received the check the damage less my deductible (after fighting almost 30 days for) but not for towing storage that my son paid for. Seems the survey they send to customers who file claims actually gets read by some big shot. The supervisor, of my adjuster who never returned one phone call, called this morning to apologize and offer the reimbursement as a peace offering. Getting another $1K.

    Thank you Lord.
