Absolutely! The only reason my first GS didn't end up a pile of ashes on the side of an Idaho Highway was because my parents gave me one as a gift after I got the car. Those molded fuel lines running from your fuel pump to Q-jet easily kink and a small hole on the underside, just a prior to the carb, will start a fire on you intake in no time at all! Thanks Mom!
My ex-wife was driving my 70 GS 455 to the mall and was inside anf the fuel line had a pin hole leak, And caught fire. A guard saw it and put it out. But it warped the hood and melted most wiring. A fun job with all that white powder every where. Now I keep one in the car
I think that car was bought in that condition ( Superbird) Reminds me of the "Speedway car" Mopar nuts know it as the Speedway car. It was a sublime Superbird or Daytona I never knew which close to the Daytona track. The car was behind an old station and it was way worse that that orange car. It was rolled, t'boned and had no drive train, no nose, no interior and no wing. Not one useable piece of metal. This car sat there for years and one day it shows up on Ebay and sold for 39K!! Wonder if the new owner was going to "fix" it?
For the trim /vin tags probably. My wife always said my'96 Riv smelled like gas. I never noticed it and kind of blew her off. Then, one day I meet with a tree contractor over at Mom's place, and standing in the driveway he mentions it also. Hmmm, maybe there is something to it. :idea2: Sure enough, one of the plastic fuel lines had a pin hole leak right where it routes over the supercharger. :eek2: Talk about driving a time bomb around. I never did tell the wife, lest I get the "I told you so speach." :Smarty:
I actually need to get a fire extinguisher for the wagon along with 3 of our other vehicle. both our 4x4s have them it is required by my 4x4 club for trail runs. Tim
That superbird isn't orange, it's burned to a crisp, with a large gash in the roof. Guy stopped in front of our shop for some reason, probably using the cell phone and drove off before I could ask him what the deal was with the car. My son is a mopar freak and he thinks somebody might have bought it for the vin. I don't think that's plausible as it would have been cheaper to remove the vin, rather than shipping the whole car. Really would like to know what the deal was with it though.
this is one i picked a couple of months ago , its a shame it was a nice show car before the roasting.
This guy had a pretty $h!++y day too. I couldnt imagine coming home and seeing my Buick like this in the driveway.
