That's "Everything does nothing" So if it does nothing not running it is not an issue. Heck if a guy wants to save money, run cheap radial tires, that is about $300 to put toward stock rockers and the car rides better. Or run a kink bent 2 1/4" exhaust with cheap mufflers, that's another $300 for lock ness rockers. Why not? everything does nothing. o No: I'm going to not run bumpers, cause plating them is expensive.
....a sign of the times???? http://www.autoweek.com/article/20090227/CARNEWS/902279984 Bet there's a lot more of this out there. Pass the problem farther up the chain to their suppliers......too bad, suckers....and you know who's at the end of the chain.......
Glasgo - - cool hair ? Tim does make good points. We choose what we want/like/prefer to run. There is no "Silver Bullet" combination. If there was, everyone would run the same thing. Take what you have, build it to the capacity that the combination allows, and be proud of it. I could bitch all day long about how crappy the rocker bridges and exhaust manifolds are on Olds 350's. Guess what -- I decided to run it, so I had to deal with the short comings. Try buying a correct '70 W-31 carb. Cha-ching comes to mind ......... Point is: The reason that we all run in this style of racing is for the variety of cars that are out there. Some things are good, some things ..... well .... not so good. So the next time Glasgo bitches about his rocker arms, I'm gonna throw Olds 350 exhaust manifolds at him and see if he can catch 'em. < JK >
Careful Brian, the more radial snow tire cars the more people will want water in the burn out box.:bla: Just looked in the Summit catalog. Small block stamped steel rockers are $38.95 a set and big block are $58.95 for factory hi-po replacement. Cheaper than your gas to get to and from the event. As far a RA4 rockers, I don't have an answer for you but Dan and Bob of all people should know that situation. Maybe he could give those engines a waiver. I sure would hate to see folks running that engine stop coming because of something as minor as that.
What's all this whining about "wear and tear" when using stamped steel rockers? I don't know what's normal for other makes, but Oldsmobile built hundreds of thousands of cars with engines that lasted 100,000 to 200,000 miles without ever having a valve cover removed. Stamped steel, non-adjustable rocker arms. So why are a few of you concerned about wear and tear? Unless, that is, you're running insane spring pressures to work with an illegal cam ....... o No:
The only point i was trying to make is that it was a real relief when Dan ok,d the roller tip rockers.I dont want to run roller tips, but it was a nice option.Alot of the rare parts are being bought by the resto crowd, where does that leave us racers? You Chevy guys will see, when you no longer can buy some of the good American parts anymore, and all that is available is Chinese junk.I will find some stock rockers, but it sure seems like a waste of money.I am surprized by the "Everything does nothing" mentallity.I think most of you are smart enough to know what does what, and dont tell me roller tips make more power.
You should not be suprised at a very topical running joke. After hearing the responce of "that doesn't do anything" regarding everything from pusher pumps to things left unwritten, I found it was better to reach a state of enlightenment and realize. Everything does nothing....everything does nothing Feel the blood pressure drop. As we meditate contemplate "what do roller tip rockers do?"
Melling makes replacement 1.65 rockers for Pontiac . As an aside, many years ago I went to the strip and ran my mostly stock GTO with stock Pontiac 1.5 arms, then pulled all the rocker arms and replaced them with new Comp Cams 1.52 roller tip arms... result : zero improvement in ET or mph. I sold them soon after to get my money back.
It's funny (this is not directed at John by the way) how we're never debating about whether a variation to the "stock" rules should occur to allow an aftermarket part that will have the known effect of slowing a car down. We're just always absolutely certain that the proposed "thingy" won't make it go any faster.
It is not the rockers that fail it is the lock nuts with solid cam's. The answer is to use the poly locks! I wonder if the stock drippers will work with the poly locks on a BB chevy? Anybody know??
I run KOOL nuts- there a huge poly lock, shorter than regular poly locks. The extra diamiter catchs the oil and directs it to the extra large slots on the pivet balls on the SUMMIT long slot hipo replacements. Yes they clear chevelle drippers , barely.... But dont the vette covers have the squashed drivers corner?? Might have to check.
On the engine in our Y-Nova, I tried some off-brand stamped rockers several years ago, with poly locks, and munched several rockers [at pivot]...I had pulled the GM pieces when I had gone through the engine and figured newer had to be better, but was sadly mistaken. When I got to comparing the originals to the newer ones, the newer pieces were considerably *lighter*, which made me feel they were made of junk metal, which explained their failure. The original set went back on and has been trouble free... Drippers will work for sure on the non-'Vette stff, and are mandatory if you ask me...another one of those lessons learned the hard way.ou: I'll have to see if I have a 'Vette valve cover, but I'm thinking the drippers themselves don't extend all the way to where the corner is lopped off anyway??
He might still have these, RA IV rockers, fulcrums, studs and pushrods for $85 I know it's used, but so is my stuff. http://stlouis.craigslist.org/pts/1049241239.html
John: I know you [and others!] probably think this is just crazy talk from some dumb hillbilly, but you really should try cryo treating an original set and see if that doesn't cure the problem. It's cheap enough to at least give it a shot, as I think it only cost me $15 to have my last set done...?
Rob,I think it is a great idea!Do you and Jim use the same person? I feel stupid about making an issue over this.I found some made by Federal Moguel, and melling, not sure if they are actually the same. The mellings are 7.15,and the Feds are 5.50.We have used at least 20 melling cams with never any issues,so i might get the melling.I could have sworn i checked for these a few years ago,but maybe i did not. Thanks for the heads up Todd!
