Well Donny, guess who else gets to join you? And this after I called Bob personally last spring to make sure roller tips would be OK. Roller tips are just so much easier on the valve train.

But hey, I stand by both those guys though. I have tremendous respect for them and what they're trying to accomplish. If that's the way we're going to go, so be it and move on.

I would just like to know why the change in rules.Am i the only guy that is getting tired of spending money on this stuff? Now i am going to have to look for a set of NOS Ram Air 4 rockers, and God knows what they will cost.An NOS bumper for a 70 Judge sold last week for 4025.00!This is the group of people that i will be bidding against. They say if you cant run with the big dogs, stay on the porch. The porch is looking better every day.At least when Donny puts the stamped rockers on,he will prove that a roller tip rocker offers no performance increase over a good stamped steel one.

If the market is still there for some of the exclusive pieces, it will be interesting to see if one or more of Crane's competitors purchase those tools to continue production....that is of course, if Crane actually produced those items to begin with, and not another tier of manufacturing under them.

You are correct that cost is getting to be a problem for correct parts. A substitute for newer replacements that have no or negligible performance gains is something that might need to be looked at in the future. It is very possible that Dan and Bob will run the Purest of the Pure Stock programs.......but with just a handful of participants. That or the program will distill down to just a few makes and models that parts are readily and cheaply available for. The odd duck participant will be out of luck and we'd all be the poorer for that.

That said, I too requested last year to use roller tips to ease the wear and tear on the engine. L79 Nova engines are different from all other Chevy L79 engines. They're high performance parts and they didn't make that many of them to start with. Now 40+ years later, hard to get and getting more expensive all the time. There's a reason it's been 11 years since the last '66-'67 Chevy II, L79 ran at Stanton....................

Well said and very true. The thought of having to run junk parts in one of my motors makes me wish i had just built it for FAST and ran in the back of the pack, and let it go at that.My 69 GTO which i built to certify, has used rockers ,and the last time i pulled them off,a couple of them are wearing the valve tips.Bad thing is that a friend loaned them to me,and they are not even mine.I was going to replace them with roller tips, and give them back in the spring.I think i will pull the motor instead and sell it off in pieces, and build a new motor with massaged parts.

I knew when I bought the roller tips that they were legal, but at the same time wrong for the car..........

I am really not that unhappy I have to change back, if the rules are being tightened on everyone.

stock is stock and we all know what stock is..... :Smarty:

After rereading my last post,i realize using massaged parts moves me to FAST.Stock is stock.

just think of the L88 guys with the alluminum heads!!! The 074 heads are getting rare and expensive if you can find them that have not been ported and worked on.?? Seems like a huge step backward for Something that does nothing!! (As stefina would say)

I'm curious, What is different about a L-79 Nova engine and say a L-79 Corvette engine besides carb number, air cleaner, and oil filter location. Are you saying that the Nova engine is a higher performance L-79 engine?

the blocks are different and much more rare...

Like I said, oil filter location.

A 1.5:1 small block stamped steel rocker arm can be purchased just about anywhere. Its the cheapest rocker to buy that I know of.
If you are concerned about spending money, welcome to the world of drag racing.

Sorry Ken that was not my intent at all. No, that was not what I was trying to say. Rarer for sure though.
It's hard for me at times to communicate accurately on the internet and I guess this is just one of those times. I'll leave it at that. My apologies for the misunderstanding.

Tom, I usually have the exact opposite problem on the internet, everyone knows exactly what I mean too often :eek2:

    Not a problem, Tom.
Let me ask this, if I were to build a L-79 Nova like yours (which I have no plans on doing at this time), use a regular pass car block and get around the clutch linkage problem that using that block would create, would I still be considered stock? Hmmm food for thought.

Donny, good answer. Years ago we used to say that we could buy small block Chevy parts at Chathams. Unlike Walmart, at least back then they would still be American made.

EVERYBODYs CAR has ups and Downs. Pontiac exhaust manifolds are awesome , mine SUCK.
Your car is swoopy and arodynamic -BRIANS has a full time parachute for a grille.
You have cool hair- I'm losing most of mine.
    Life isn't always fair..:ball:

EVERY body picks there cars. Some parts are cheap ,for some the EXOTIC ones are more expensive.
ALUMINUM heads $$$$$ -Iron only $$$
BK's hemi blocks- he was complaing about spending $$$
EVERYBODY picks there cars and there engine combo. The cost of running that combo is MOOT. Do you want to use that rare combo or not ???
    That's the price you pay.

Stefina paid $3050.oo for a fuel pump ( only fit's 430 tri power)
BK payed $4000.oo for machine work to repair a hemi block - used hemi rockers go for about $1500.oo (want to run a hemi you pay the HEMI PRICE)
Even though Corvettes are everywhere these days , to clone an L-88 you have to buy 074's -198 intake and the 850 dp carb .SHAWING CHA CHING

I have always been amazed at the money these companies wasted on parts that are or never where any good.
Some companies make parts THAT DON't EVEN do ANYTHING.No power gain. At least that's what I was told. Everything does nothing.

That night at my house , I believe everyone was just trying to reel in the EXTREMES, and level the playing field again. TO REgain some credabilaty and For everyone to have the same rules again. NOT some peoples loose interpitations.
BOB and DAN Both agreed and felt the same--- at least that night.

EVERY car has a week link. I'd be happy yours is only rockers !!!

    Tim,
Try and find an F code Carb for a blown 57 Ford or T'bird, or intake, they are different..............You can spend SERIOUS money on that.
