A '68 sticker printed on a '67 format sticker.. Weird, the factory must have run out of the blank '68 stickers. I have seen this before with other years also.
All- I'm attaching a few photos of my '69 GS400 Stage 1 showing its accent stripes. I'm also attaching the car's window sticker. There are no stripe options on the sticker. I don't know exactly what month this car was assembled, but it would have had to have been Sept., Oct., Nov., or Dec. of 1968. My father ordered it as a company car while he was a zone rep. for Buick in Kansas City. I've only seen these accent stripes on two or three other '69 GS400's. They are factory painted, correct? Thanks, -ibis1969
Is it possible that there’s three versions? First being stripe is standard so not on option sheet (and goes over the rear wheelwell), Second being stripe is still standard but doesn’t go over wheelwell (like the gorgeous red car above) and Third becomes a no cost option instead of standard, thus appears as an option on window stickers? Patrick
I believe I talked about the 69 optional stripes in the thread about my car "69 Motion Equipped Resto". All the info I have says it was a no cost option, and there were two different varieties of stripes. The early style went over top the rear wheelhouse (like on my car), while the later style stopped in front of the rear wheelhouse, and then continued to the rear of the car after the wheelhouse. Both the red and white cars pictured above have the later style stripes Below is my car with the early stripes, and I do remember when documenting it, that if my car had been built a week later it would have come with the second style stripes. Hey gd2227- The really clean red '69 Stage 1 above has an Arkansas plate on it. Its sticker said it was originally sold in Fort Smith. Not sure where it sits in Arkansas now, but mine is 'up the hill' from Ft. Smith in Fayetteville/Springdale. -ibis1969
Duane, what week was the Motion GS built? Ibis, post a pic of your cowl tag; it will tell the week and month. Patrick
I don't remember what the week codes on the firewall are, but there is a sheet in the assembly manual that states the stripes were removed over the wheelhouse on 9/20/68. Duane
Hey Patrick- Here is the cowl tag. Looks like it was built the week of 11/18/1968. By chance do you know what assembly plant 'FLQ' is? The Window Sticker shows Flint, MI as the car's 'Final Assembly Point'. Thanks, -ibis1969
The H in your VIN and the FL on the trim tag both mean Flint. Not sure what the Q is. The 11C is the third week of November ‘68, 52 52 is Signal Red body and roof, and 185 is pearl white buckets. The Q might have something to do with it being a Stage 1 (all Stage 1s were built in Flint for ‘69). Just a guess- Patrick
