Installed the pressure gauge inline before the carb. Almost 7 Lb at idle drops to just above 6 revving the engine in park. Took it down the road for a test hit and although it did not fall flat this time I did see the fuel pressure drop to under 2 Lb. Didnt have enough road to run it up to top speed to see if it would drop lower. If this is in fact the issue then I see no alternative but to go electric.
You can just tee in an electric pusher pump back near the tank. That might be simpler. You can also just go with one of Rob Mc's pumps. http://www.robbmcperformance.com/products/buick550.html
Just curious as to what the carburetor number is that you are using, and what are the engine specs, CID, compression, cam, etc. Just wondering about the "basics" of the situation before taking more intrusive measures to keep the carb full on hard runs?.......Cliff
Whatever is done it has to be quiet. Wonder what the difference is between the Mc Rob pump and the Stage 1 pump I installed a few weeks ago. Hate the sound of the Holley red pump on the Regal. Cant imagine having that noise on the Riv when I'm crusing

There are graphs comparing the Stage1 pump and the Rob Mc pump for free flow and at 4.5 psi. http://www.robbmcperformance.com/images/products/pumps/Buick550HP_FF.jpg http://www.robbmcperformance.com/images/products/pumps/Buick550HP_45.jpg
Think I may have stumbled onto the problem. Put the car up on the lift today to do a list of items. Replace the pan gasket, Check out what might be needed to up grade the fuel lines to 1/2" and replace the billet lower pulley with the stock one. As I was tracing the fuel line thinking this is going to be pretty easy I found a spot towards the back nearly crushed flat. Both the 3/8 line as well as the 5/16 return line. I have no idea how or when this happened. I spliced in a piece of rubber line and will give it a test run as soon as I get the other stuff done.
I had already dropped the tank and replaced the lines from there to the steel lines that run along the frame. Today I was going to replace the lines(again) that run through the cross member. Then I found the crushed spot just after it came down from the R wheel well. I dont see how anything could have hit that spot hard enough to do that.
Got the car on the ground. another series of test runs and its worse now than before. I removed the filter and got a minor improvement. Put gauge back in line and now its running at 5 psi at idle and drops to around 1 at 3500 rpm. I give up. Ordered the McRobb fuel pump. Modified the pick up to 1/2" and will runs new lines all the way to the front. I'll also use the return line where the S1 pump on there now does not offer this option. Should I leave the stock 3/8 line in place and run along side it or completely remove and replace with 1/2"? One thing I noticed is the new filter I installed when I set up the carb after the electric choke was installed has some sort of back flow device in it. Disabled that also.
Problem Solved. Installed the new RobbMc pump. bent up the 1/2 fuel line to fit in the factory location. Installed the modified pick up in the tank. Pulled the 1/2 rubber fuel line through the cross member and spring pocket. Hooked it all back up and went for a test blast. 100MPH+ in 2nd gear 5500 RPM and she didnt miss a beat. The gas guage even works! The bad, Still gots a small oil leak from the back of the pan.
