First time doing the Dream Cruise and taking my 69 GS, anybody else going? Any good spots where Buick guys hang out?
Go during the weekdays. Cars are actually moving along instead of gridlocked. Saturday, the official cruise event day is turning out to be more of a parade,(dream crawl) rather than like it was back in the late 60's. It's still the world's biggest car event though....
The real Buick hang out is in Flint at Back to the Bricks, same day as the Dream Cruise, also Buick on the Bricks is a show within the show. backtothebricks.org
Thanks! I'm already planning on being in MI on the 19th anyway and have wanted to go to this! Now I need to see if I can schedule an extra day there &/or shift the schedule. What is the best day(s) to attend? Is there a swap meet as well? August 17-21
I’m planning on heading up on Friday so hopefully I can check out the scenery before “gridlock” sets in on Saturday. I don’t want to test my new cooling system in 5 mph parade traffic .
I did that for 2-3 years on Woodward with my GS 4 speed...my left knee was swollen for a couple of days after that! Every once in awhile you get to "let er rip"!
Hi, Both the Woodward Dream Cruise and Back to the Bricks are great events, known a few that would do Back to the Bricks in the morning and head to Woodward for the afternoon, lots of driving. The biggest difference between the 2 is Back to the Bricks is more of a static show more like a local cruise night in most small towns, vs Woodward being more of a actual cruise. Either way there are usually a bunch of events going on the week prior. Hope you enjoy whichever event you attend Regards, Jim
Back to The Bricks has a dedicated Buicks only parking lot next the Buick Museum and across the street from the old Durant carriage Factory (been refurbished pretty cool). A little walk over the river to the vast length of cars on the bricks is a sight to see for sure. I met Denny Manner and few other just hanging and talking the old stuff. They had the Stage 2 stuff on display a couple original Stage 1's and GSX's a few years back. Denny also did a presentation in the Carriage Factor Auditorium explaining the development and engineering behind the 455 and quit a bit on the TurboV6 as well. Very cool for a Buick people. Gary
I'm going to try and shift my travel plans by a couple days & add a day in for the "Back to the Bricks" event. I've wanted to go since 1st hearing about it a few years ago. Woodward sounds fun too & I could probably swing through the area and check it out just to see the scene but seems like a huge traffic mess too. What's the best day to be @ Back to the Bricks Is there a swapmeet?
Swap meet is not during the event but rather Thur. and Fri. see link, https://backtothebricks.org/swap-meet/ Saturday is the day to be there.
The only real gridlock will be between 9 mile road and 16 mile road. After 16 mile road it pretty much opens up all the way to Pontiac. Pontiac has the M1 Concourse. https://woodwarddreamshow.com/event-details/ Like Mart said, starting about 2 weeks before, and really the whole week leading up to the dream cruise, Woodward will be the place to be. Most people seem to congregate at the old Pasquale's restaurant and Duggans https://www.dugganspub.com/
I’ve been going every year since 1997. The biggest problem with the Saturday gridlock is they can’t keep regular cars out of the cruising lanes. I know it would be a logistical nightmare, but it would be great if they could shut the road down to just classics only. You spend more time idling than cruising.
If you do cruise to Pontiac, you usually can't get back to "the hub" at 13 - 16 mile road area without taking Coolidge Hwy or Greenfield. It's a traffic experience in itself.... I hear Woodward is happening right now on the weekends, maybe even weekdays.
Hi again, Back to the Bricks main thing is Saturday the same day as the official Woodward Cruise, although every day leading up to Woodward is a Cruise night. Friday night Back to the Bricks has a Cruise between Flint and Grand Blac, good time, not sure what is planned for this year, as they've changed it a few time over the years, they use to have a static show Friday night from 5:00-dark, but that got changed into the Cruise. If you do go to Back to the Bricks plan on getting there early as we usually get there around 4am and there's usually about 100 cars in front of us, if you're a BCA member I believe you can get in the Buick area anytime, but check with someone who is a member. This was 2018 at about 4-5am: Regards, Jim
Whoa, sounds like I should be heading up on Wednesday not Friday...lotta stuff to check out in only 2.5 days
