Hey Duane, While your playing match maker, I would like a ‘71 GSX that is original-ish and uncirculated…. Some day..
No, A totally unknown car, with the exception of 1 person on the board. Duane PS. I have played “match maker” to cars many times.
BUQUICK, You are safe, the 72 I was talking about was a different color combination, or it was a 71. Duane
Scott, I had 2 of them both Diplomat blue. I don’t even know where they are today. I do know of one, it’s Seafoam Green, but I think you will have to pry it out of his “dead” fingers to get it. A completely unmolested car. Duane
I like the oddball stuff & those were standouts in that dept. Of course MCACN is overload when it comes to rarities.
Odd colors? I resemble that remark. Mayfair Maize (same as the '69 GTO you pictured at MCACN), gold interior, dark brown vinyl top.
I went with my trailer to buy the car today, it was a long haul from Atikokan to New Brunswick. The price recently went up due to Haggerty sending everyone letters that their Buicks went up in value but I was willing to go. Story was, original owner, all numbers matching 455 stage car, 33000 miles, Repaint in 2007 because of stone chips. It’s a 72 stage car but none of the numbers match, it does have ws stamp on block but #’s don’t jive. Distributor is from 70 none stage and original carb gone. He couldn’t find the 72 stage distributor in his parts but he had other years… Has bb trans but none numbers again. I saw pictures of the car totally disassembled for repaint of stone chips??? The only thing that verifies it’s a real X was the 3/8 trunk rods so unfortunately I couldn’t bet all my marbles on that. There is no gsx badge on the front grill and he said it didn’t come with it the dash pad had the gsx plate. He was very vague on things that went on with this car and could not explain why the block #’s didn’t match the vin…I snooped in his garage and saw about 5 Buick transmissions and he kept bringing exhaust manifolds from his shed for all other years of Buicks but couldn’t find both sides that got taken off when he added the headers. The good, this was treated to a really nice paint job in 2007 and I crawled around underneath, in the trunk, engine compartment, doors gaps etc, really nice job. Almost reminded me of an Arizona car. Says interior is original? and it is really nice notch back bench…looks like only 2 gsx’s got that? I feel he was being dishonest and was acting confused when I asked him things about the car. I feel if the car was half the price I would have it in my trailer now, I never countered their price and drove away kinda pissed. Not one photo of him as a young man with the car, no documentation and no pictures before he had it repainted, darn…This car would probably win trophies at local shows and would be a blast to drive but in my opinion, not for the asking price for a 72. FYI, I am by no means an expert but was on the phone with one and I had my pocket book “By the Numbers” as reference and as they say, the numbers don’t lie, anyways buyer beware. Gordon
You made the trip and saw the car. Good job. If it still speaks to you a week from now, you can make him a lower offer, and take the car for what it is. He obviously isn't a reliable source. Thanks for sharing the story!
Yes, flying there was problematic and we were going to Ottawa anyway so only 12 more hours drive. I have the vin # and believe gm Canada can verify what the car really is? Worth the drive and got to eat some sea food lol..
