It doesn’t have the batwing wheel now, I’ll get his buddy to look in his parts stash. So the gsx package would not have included the rally wheel? regarding the stripes when it got a repaint the body shop went to great lengths to paint them as per factory. I talked to the fellow that painted the car and he tried talking the owner out of repainting it. Other than some paint chips and probably the Matt black on the hood was probably messed up from waxes or ? The painter said he couldn’t remember if he even had to fix a dent. Absolutely no rust or metal repair.

Thanks Duane, I do have some dog dishes and will be having a heart to heart with the owner on the 14” steel wheels and the steering wheel.

    Gordon,
For 71-72 the GSX packages were a-la-cart.

The only things the 72 GSX package included were the stripes, rear spoiler, body colored headlight doors, decals, and the dash emblem. The front spoiler, hood tach, and even the sport mirrors were additional options that could be ordered on the car.

And we already talked about the grill emblem.

    PS,
There were quite a few 72 GSX’s that came with zero or minimal tire/wheel options. It would appear that the dealers wanted to put aftermarket wheels/tires on them, so they didn’t want to spend money on something they were going to change out.

I figured the dealer or ordering owner often planned to add aftermarket wheels. (Maybe the same with steering wheels and radios-I had a ‘79 Trans Am parts car once that was built loaded, including power antenna, radio accomodation package but radio delete.) I also wondered if the whitewall order was deliberate; it got the dealer a new set of whitewalls for almost free; he could swap those onto a Special or other low-trim car for extra profit.

It was suggested we avoid going through Maine due to the quebec Canada customs? We went through Bangor yesterday, and a hole lot of back roads. Saw a nice black 51 ish buick and someone in a nice 65ish gs, red with black top? Lots of buicks in Maine
