Wow that's novel. Okay, just to cast any suspicion off me, I'll do it. I'll even have the headlights and wipers on to cut through the morning fog, and the heater set to medium to take the edge out of the 45 degree morning air... and defog the hoodtach a little too. Will it still be within the rules to allow it to idle long enough in the parking lot for the choke to kick down?
I'd do it as well. The last place I cruised to was a 74 mile round trip, I put the car in the garage, only fixed an exhaust leak before taking it to E-town and running a 12.95. Even ran the heater before my last pass as it was pretty cold that day.
So when the cars are certified it is just the engine? No lightening of the car is checked or wrong size tires being used, line locks, different suspension components etc. I agree with some others on this that the car in whole should be checked. The problem with that though would be someone who knows the all the cars or a group of people to do it. A time frame would be an issue, I would imagine that would be alot of work. Could all of that be done before a event?
Don't let me confuse you Mark Mark, the Stanton crew does a pretty good job of checking the WHOLE car over, and the guy's who attend and subject a car for the process know better than to try to sneak a bunch of stuff through. I don't know how car's from other event's with "rulebook soup" would do though trying to get a car certified, especially if a guy who run's(or try's to run)his car in a Pure Stock or Factory Stock at an Eastern event get's bumped over into a F.A.S.T. class because *somebody* think's the car is too fast for Pure Stock. A guy who get's bumped may get confused about what he should be doing with the car(as far as which set of rule's to build his car) and start doing Stock Appearing trick's to the car to make it quicker, then come spring/summer, haul the car to Michigan and enter in a *stock* class again because it's too slow to be F.A.S.T. The point about Certification being used as a yardstick would be, let's say just for an example, Pete Simpson's ZL-1 Camaro has been Certified and run's let's say 11.97, and at the same event another ZL-1 Camaro show's up and run's 11.60's, wouldn't it make you scratch your head just a little? Maybe go over to said car, grab a heater hose to check for warmth, look under the dash to see what is or isn't present? This is why certification was started, to prove the certifed car is stock within the rules of the event. Sorry for any confusion o No:
I wish I was there for the tech that followed on Terry's car. It's the first time I heard that the duration of the camshaft was checked, not just the lift. It sounds like their was no stone left unturned as far as the motor was concerned. Congradulations to JJ as well because he has been on the defensive since the spun bearing the year of his tear down 3 years ago. He has had to endure the voices that it is not the real cam because he refuse to quite tearing down his car for certification. Jim
I will put the A/C belt back on the Hurst if you drop the top! Could be cold that morning! I bet mine weighs more than your car! :moonu:
Rusty: You keep eating those triple deckers at BK for lunch every day and yours will weigh more than all our cars with us in them! Including Me! I'll turn on my rear window defogger-blower and run my power antenna up and down. That's about all I have for options on my car.
The best part is he pulled the cam handed it to tech and went home without it! :TU: 'Scuse me while I wip this out!
Oh yeah? Are you a two tonner? After the weigh in on Friday, the owner of the lighter car has to eat the difference in Sausage McMuffins... then we'll race from Alma to McBride. :moonu:
At Martin, the car rolled across the scales (with me in it) at 4170#. Better strap on the ol' feedbag!
4,170 vs. 3,924 Burrrrp! ...'scuse me. ... think I'm going to have to bolt on some more options in the off season. :Brow: ... and you should take the body out of the trunk.
Just don't bolt on a power a$$ wiper, everyone knows that is a Buick only option .......... don't wanna have problems in tech, do you ??? :eek2:
Update: I am working to try to get the owner of the Camaro to come to the Martin event :3gears: I am also in possesion of a video of this Camaro making a 11.68 @ 117 pass I will get it posted to the web as soon as I get it shrunk down some.
I second that question. Donny, tell me you are not looking for more bent valves on the vette in the off season? I still owe you big for saving my quarter panel. Jim
I have the video cut down to a managable size, but I don't have a hosting site anymore........ I threw it up on youtube, but the original video is much better quality http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfZj8X8VgZQ can anyone host a 16 MB video for download ?
Donny you should check with Bruno about that Camaro as he spent time with him at the race. But it is suspect at this point from my understanding. The owner would not step up and try to prove its correctness at Gonzo's race even with Bruno's and others urging before he was asked to leave. He than suggested that he would only have it checked at his house in a post on another sight after the race. As I recall it had several incorrect items including G60 x 15 tires. Again Bruno would be a far superior person for this info as I am recalling a conversation about the car and did not view it in person. So take this as HEARSAY only!!! It would be shocking (but not impossible) if someone on their first try out was that much better than Rob's Yenko even with the exceptional air at that race. Mark
