Talked to Summit yesterday and they say they've got about a 35 person long backorder on the $147 wheels from Wheel Vintiques - no delivery date given. Will some of you guys please cancel your orders so I can get some???? Just kidding, of course. I was thinking of calling Wheel Vintiques directly and asking them to step up to the plate for us.

I noticed Coker claims to have them but at about $20 per higher - and I bet they don't ship for free.

Any of you guys have any other advice about where to buy.

By the way, when I told my wife I was "prolly" gonna buy these so I could run 295s she said "so the car will look more bad-ass?"

    It appears I married well.

Stock rallye is 15x7. If I were you, I would use/order 15x10. My friend has the 295-50-15 BFG on his stock 15x7 rallyes. Way toooooo much sidewall bulge for that tire/rim combo.

I got a pair from Coker, yes, they were about $20 more than summit, but they were in stock, and we had them in about 3 days. Sometimes, it is'nt just about the money. Jim Burek

Just ordered a pair of 15x8's from Coker Tire a few minutes ago! When I called I was told they had 7 wheels in stock if anyone needs them. Now I have to call Summit and cancel the set I have had backordered since ordering them Feb. 5.

    Here's something else JIC...

There is a wheel service in Cola. that does industrial type stuff but they also do custom rim stretches. Alot of folks have used them for steel wheel rim size adjustments. I have seen their work and its good. My point is,most cities have some sort of shop that does this, mostly as a service to big truck type stuff. I can only assume on a ralley they would only be able to add width on the backside since the front side is chromed....fish

    Gotta bring this up again

OK - so I gotta bring this thread back up - and I'm sorry its not in "The Hides" but I need the readership of the Bench.

I think I'd be better off using a 10 inch wheel than the 8 inch. The photo Mike patched in here still makes it look like that 8 inch wheel is the minimum size for that tire. In fact, it is according the the BFG website. But a 10 inch wheel is the max size for the tire. I think better handling will come from a tire that is not ballooned around the rim.

The cost would probably be an extra hundred (around $40 per wheel plus tax and shipping).

Man - what should I do? Gotta call Coker tomorrow to change the order.

Are there any backspacing issues on the '70 with that 10 inch rim?

    Get the right backspacing...

I have 10's on mine with 5.5 backspacing and it actually flexes enough to touch the shock bracket on my 12 bolt, its really close. Granted you could get creative with a grinder or weld new perches. They fit just right though and the tire doesnt look like its pregnant...fish

Brad, I'm using a 10 inch wheel with 5 5/8 bs with 325/50's and they fit ok. Yes they will rub on hard corners or when I have a couple of adults in the back :Dou: . The air bags should cure both problems. That said..The 295's are an inch narrower(sp?). That inch should give me more than enough room. I paid 175 per wheel from Specialty wheel. If I had it to do over I would have measured and ordered one wheel with 5.5 inch bs and the other with 5 11/16 or 3/4 as my rear diff isn't exactly centered. Just one of the downsides of stuffing the max tire in there...But they do look cool!!! :beer

Some quick wheel & tire math

A 295 is 11.6 inches in cross-section. On an 8 inch rim that is 1.8 inches overhang per side.

A 245 is 9.6 inches. On a 7 inch rim that is 1.3 inches overhang.

A 255 is 10 inches. On a 7 inch rim that is 1.5 inches overhang.

I know you guys can do math but I thought this might help provide some quick comparisons with common Buick tire-rim combinations.

Mr. Moderator - please feel free to move the thread to Hides.

    Thank you.

    Hey Mike,

Does your wife's car ever rub the tires with the inside of the fender? I'd hate to have this happen.

My car rides slightly higher in the rear due to its cargo springs. Owner number one used to tow a boat - fast. :Brow:

    Hey,

Its almost 9:00 p.m. hear on the left coast on Saturday night and FedEx ground just delivered the 15x8s from Coker Tire. 7 days is pretty good turn-around for ground shipping.

Wheels were made by Specialty Wheels in December 2004 - not Wheel Vintiques. Quality looks great.

Still looking forward to hearing from you Mike as to whether the 295s rub.
