Depends on what car you want to put them on, as to how well they might fit. The tire heights look good, I don't think that's a problem, and a 245 is ok on 68-72's, but the 275 can be a problem on 68/69 Skylark/GS as they have less room to work with in the wheel wells.

You need 5" of back spacing on an 8" wheel, for the back of the 68-69 Skylark/GS

Those should fit fine on a 1970 Skylark/GS. Rear spacing is acceptable on both wheels for a '70-72 A body. Looks like the tire sizes are 245/45-18 front, and 275/40-18 rear. These should cause you no interference problems.

My very careful measurements show 5.5 backspace on a 69 Sport Wagon. Does that sound right to you?

I'm about to pull the trigger on some expensive wheels, so I would like other opinions. I think the wagons are bit thicker on the channel on the outboard side.

Could be. Is that on an 8" wheel, or a 10"?

5.5 on what size wheel ? I think you're getting pretty close to the bottom shock mount with 5.5 on an 8" wheel

in the pic below - look PAST the eye candy :Do No::Dou: - those rear wheels/tires are STOCK 15x7 rims with 275/60/15's, which bulge a bit on the 7" rims but work fine in practice. There is only about a small fingers' width between the tire and the wheel well lip but I've put about 3,000 miles on this setup this season with NO rubing issues at all.

My Drag Radials are 275/50/15's and are mounted on 15x8's with a 5 1/8" backspace and that gives about 2 good fingers

PLEASE NOTE - alot of the bodies are not mounted completely centered on the chasis so you need to measure BOTH sides and plan for the smaller (or loosen all your body mounts, lift it and recenter). On my '69 GS Convert the difference is allmost a full 3/8"

    18x what? 18x8 18x9? 18x10?

heres extreme combos that fit to give you an idea

    15x10 with 325-50 10 needs 5-5/8 bs
17x11 with 315-35-17 needs about 6.25 bs which is like +6 offset i believe

also is this for front or rear

    i plan to do 17x9.5 on 275 40 17 for front which will need 5 3/4 bs

I think the best rim combo for somebody that wants moderan sizes but wants to keep stock height or maybe 1 inch drop would be an 18 in back with17s up front
your not limitedto just a 25.7 tire like you are with 17s all around...if you want tall and wider then a 245 series

ps these BS measurementsare for 70-72 cars

Im gonna jump in here on the 'square the body with the frame'
Im interested in how much movement I could get if I do this, and where to measure from? I was thinking just inside the front and rear wheels from frame to rocker panel... sound right?
When I got my car the front sheet metal did not line up at all. It had been off the frame by the previous owner. I had to shift the rad support to one side a lot... 1".. to get the front edge of the fenders / hood to line up acceptably.
I thought if the body was more square on the frame, I could shift it but had no idea how much play you get just by loosening the bolts. Or do you have to take them out?

Curtis - Im not going to even pretend to know what to do to correct this. The way I found out was - a long time member of the NorthEast chapter, Harold Rolls, used to work on the Buick assy line and may have even built my GS ... one day years ago I was discussing with him the differences on BigRed after I jumped through hoops to gets slicks to fit under it. He told me about there being a certain amount of play (left to right) when the body was mounted to the chasis ... something about locating pins came in contact and then it was just bolted down. They were never checked for centering once the pin was in the hole

... certainly there are Resto Guru's that can expand on this and what is needed to get the chasis and body "square" - I'd suggest starting a thread on this. 20 years ago when I was younger and stuuuupider I just trimmed the wheel wells after spending my measly paycheck back then on rims/slicks that didn't fit one side :spank:

I will post pics when I get back to Ontario. I just put 18x10 with 295/35 -6.25" bs rear and 18x9 with 255/40- 6.25 bs front on my 71 lark. No cutting no rubbing. I read many posts and took my time but then realized that most threads discussed here are people using stock brake setups so with my aftermarket (baer) setup I had to buy a plastic offset tool from summit and do my own calculations on my car with my brake setup....the old guys would say measure twice..when it comes to wheels measure 10 times and save a fortune buying a set that fits the first time. On my fronts I erred on the side of caution so I could shim the wheel out. I could have got away with 6" bs on the front.
If you go to "members ride" section look for thread titled "71 skylark build" at the bottom u can see pics of my wheels.
    Good luck.

    Alan,

From your picture I can see what you mean about her body, it looks like the top portion is not completely centered, and I can see where you would want to measure BOTH sides, probably using two hands, as one looks a little smaller than the other.
