Would anybody know if a 7" rim will fit on 1962 Invicta , Wildcat, Le Sabre ? If so what is the maximum backspace that can be used so not to foul the front fender when turning etc.

From the little I've learned on my 63 you can't put stock Buick Rally 15x7 rims on, the back of the rims interferes with the finned drums unless you turn the fins off in a lathe.
I suspect you may have a similar issue with other rims.
Once you go up a size to 16"of more the problem goes away.

Thanks for reply. Yes, the 15 X 7 rally rims will not fit over the finned brake drum. I tried fitting them on my 1954 but no go. They were later model rims designed for disc brakes. Just asking about aftermarket rims if anybody has fitted them, to what backspace can be allowed before any fouling of fender.

I had an 8 inch rim with 3.75 BS and no issues. However, I have read that max BS is supposed to be approx 3.25.

I now have a set of 64 Road Rally's. I have seen several 62's with rally wheels from the later run (66-70) and they just used a spacer to deal with the register ring.

That's good to know Warren , about the 3.75 backspace. :gp: I'm looking at a set of aftermarket alloy rims now that have the 3.75 ( 7" wide )
And yes, I have been told rally wheel with spacer will fit. But they are illegal here ( spacers )
The rally wheels I tried on my 1954 were early 1970s off a disc brake car and would no way fit. However as roadrunner mentioned, we could consider shaving some of the fin off the finned style drum

On the ralley wheels, they will fit. I knocked out the centering ring and they fit, barely. I put cragars on my car, but had to turn down the fins....
