I bought a console with shifter and tach, but found ther is a part missing from the shifter. It appears there should be a rod going from the shifter connecting to the lever(which travels through the rubber boot)

Anyone have this part or know where I could find it?

    Thanks,
    Joe

Joe do you also need the arm that goes on the trans? I do not have any extra of either but was thinking of having them made for 64/66. Thanks Bill.

    Hi Bill,

Actually I would need both. I fabricated something for the initial part I was looking for (from the shifter to the lever) How well it works has yet to be seen. I would rather have the factory part, or something similar there. As for the part going to the trans, I definitely need, do you know what that part looks like?

Joe got it off and will take a picture. I have to take it to see if and how much it will cost to make the arm. I did figure out that I can rebend the column shift arm the one that goes between the column and the cross shaft on a column shift car to be used on a floor shift and the swivel is the same. I will try to post a picture of the one I have and a picture out of the book for of the shifter rod and lever. Thanks Bill.

Pictures of shifter rod and arm

Joe here are the pictues. The first picture is a drawing from the part book of the shifter. As I said I am thinking about having the lever/arm that goes on the trans made. The swivel is the same for the column shift car and can be used with the floor shift arm. The column shift rod from the column to the cross shaft can be re-bent to be the same as the floor shift one. The end that goes into the shifter arm needs a metal bushing the hole in the floor shifter is larger. The 2/3 pictures are of the unit I took off a 65 GS. It is rusty but complete. This is my extra, I have one more to use for making the new parts. If you are intersted in this setup let me know or if you just want a arm I hope to have them in a few weeks. Thanks Bill.

    Joe,
I have that lever shown in the diagram that Bill posted. I've also got some rods here that might work for you. How long does it need to be?

    Thanks Robert,

I think I'll need that u shaped rod in the upper right of the picture, the one sitting by itself. As for the long rod that connects to the trans that I need, I have nothing to measure it by exactly. I'll crawl under there tomorrow morning, take some general measurements from the shifter to where it hooks up to the trans. So you should see a reply from me tomorrow morning. I do know it looks like the one Bill posted.

Bill could you measure the one you have pictured?

    Thanks and Happy Holidays,
    Joe

Joe the rod is about 17" long and the arm is 3 5/8" over all length.

Robert, do you know if the arm and rod are off. The one I have is off a 66 Skylark GS. with a 300 trans. I am wondering if one off a turbo 400 on a big car would be different both the arm and the rod. I am asking because I was going to put a T 400 in my skylark and thought I may need a different arm for the 3 speed trans. Thanks Bill.

Guys, My lever seems to be the same. Bill, is yours flat?
I have three rods here that measure 17" but none of them exactly match the contours of the one in Bill's photo. I am not exactly sure what they came out of but I'm pretty sure that these are all GM pieces. I think that the lever should fit the 400 too but I'm not positive.
Joe, I can send these all to you, plus that little rod from my first photo too, and you can bend, cut, or grind them to fit.
How about $35.00 delivered? :Do No:

Robert the top rod looks correct, the middle one looks like a column shift rod the bottom on I am not sure. Would you measue the arm, I would like to know if it is the same overall lenght as mine. It is my understanding the arms will fit T300 and T400 but I thought one would be longer or shorter because the T 400 is 3 speed. I have never taken one off a T 400.

Joe go ahead and buy the one from Robert that is a fair price and I think it will work.

    Thanks Bill.

    Hi Robert,

Sorry for the delay, I did measure and I also came up with a measurement of about 17". I will take the three rods in the picture and the smaller one. I think Bill is right, the price seems good and you're correct that it'll give me something to work with. Please let me know how you would like payment. Paypal, check, etc and an address. You can send me a PM if you like with the info etc.

    Thanks guys,
    Joe

    Hey Robert,

Got the rods and they work great. It turns out any one of them will work, just depends on the trans height.

Bill - I'm running a 455 with a th400 and the top two in roberts picture work the best, the bottom one would also work, but the bends are more extreme and come close to the trans and/or tran hump. Let me know if you need any measurements, etc.

Speaking of tran hump, I had to remove the trans mount to get the lower end of the shifter to fit. Would you guys know if anyone sells a shorter trans mount, or would I have to go with a drop crossmember?

Oh the small u shaped rod wasn't long enough. So if you guys see one (circled in the picture) let me know.

    Thanks again,
    Joe
