I have finally decided to repair my 1965 Skylark GS NOS radio and NOS detachable antenna. Radio and a spare have been sent to Mike Hagan for resto and stealth FM upgrade. The antenna assembly is much more challenging. The exterior black plastic nut turns without threading out of the antenna lead in. The coaxial cable is somewhere inside the fender and is not pushed through the fire wall. I have researched the assembly and I have a good used antenna lead in and an NOS antenna lead in. When Hagan sends back my radios, (primary and auxiliary, because I am obsessive) Then I am ready to install a restored radio and restored or NOS antenna lead in and cable.

However, after close examination, I believe I can only repair/replace the antenna lead in and cable by taking off the right front fender. I have already tried to reach the assembly by removing the cowl vent -- impossible. The factory assembly manual says the antenna lead in and cable are to be installed before the front fender is mounted. Can the assembly be reached by removing the inner fender only?

Does any one have experience with the repair/replacement on a 1965 Skylark? All credible suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanx, SJR
