I have a set of taillight that I think I'm going to try and restore. When I cleaned them up it appeared that the inside portion that the lense sits in was painted silver from the last peak to the lense that is. It was chrome in the area of the bulbs. I want to make sure that it was painted rather than just dirt from age sitting on there. Some did come off easy. The question is actually is that area suppose to be painted or just chrome?

The other part was the area that is painted black is that suppose to be flat black or gloss?

They are in great shape with just a few pits. They are the nicest that I have seen yet.

Brian, You are right. There is an argent silver paint on the chrome housing right where you observed it. The black is more like a semi flat black. I think my painter used DP 40? Whatever black is I can never remember if it is DP 90 or DP 40. It is rare to find these taillights in such good condiion. Post some more pics when you are done.

Hi Brian; I took mine apart and just used a small can of Silver model car paint. Testors I believe. Looks the same as the original. I used the same can on the Dashboard surround from the speedo to the radio.
