Will disc rotors o No: from a 1972 buick 225 work on a 1966 riviera? If so, what all will i need to make the conversion.
They will not work. if you need new rotors, your basically screwed. You'll either have to convert to drums or buy a complete disc brake conversion kit that utilizes more readily available parts
Those parts won't fit either. The aftermarket conversion is pretty much the way to go if you must have front disc brakes. Devon
The reason im thinking of a disc brake conversion, because the motor had been bored and after market cam, just wanting to have the stopping power.
Definitely a good move. And after the aftermarket conversion, you can get replacement parts pretty much anywhere. Devon
If you do the calculations boring adds very little horsepower. Just a handful. Maybe 5 or so on a 455 bored 30/1000. On a 425 it would be a little less.
Good point, Jim. I assumed his car was a disc car already, thus no parts available...maybe he can confirm. If not, a well maintained four wheel drum setup is fine. Hell, that's what I'm still running. Devon
We own 3 muscle cars with drum brakes that work great when up to spec. One has what we and the factory called police interceptor brakes. Those finned Buick factory drums were even better.
And, that's why good ones are SO hard to find today. We Hot Rodders & Roundy-Round guys used them pretty much up. In our day the 12" finned aluminum drums were the next best thing to disc brakes & MUCH LESS weight too.

In my opinion, no need for discs.
I recall a new vendor was mentioned within the last year or so that will reline the aluminum Buick brake drums.
Good to know someone is relining them. Happy to say my stash of big car aluminum front drums will outlast me. I can haul 4575 lbs down to zero from 75 mph no problem, but I got teased for taking the last turnoff at the end of the dragstrip. Hard on and off braking avoids fade coming down from hundred-teens, it just takes longer. Devon
"I can reline your worn out Aluminum frnt drums. 45 or 90 fin. We start by machining out old liner and install a new one finished to factory Specs. We use a heat shrink method along with a bonding agent from Loctite. Warranty as long as you own the car. Get them done now so there ready this Spring. Turn aroun time is 3-4 weeks which includes shipping time. The cost per drum $200.00 plus shipping. Call or email Larry @ 815-735-4002, Lgto67@yahoo.com " http://www.jgrelining.com/
