I think I need to replace the thin panel of sheet metal that the bottom windshield sets in and meets the cowl vent. Is the Chevy or Pontiac repro the same?

    Thanks

Ed, I replaced the channel with a Chevelle repo on my 66. It's the same as Buick.
The channel is the same, however, the dash repair strip (separate part) doesn't fit due to defroster vents being in different location.
I did a pictorial of the replacement over at 65gs.com:

Ed, I think I have a nice rust free cut off windshield panel for 66/7, if you are interested I can post pictures, thanks Bill.

Thanks Walt! The pictures are great and I have my car down to the shell on the frame so fire is not an issue.

Hi Bill, how are you doing? I never get to NE. anymore miss the visits. I have a couple rust free ones but I if I can get a repro that is good it would save me having to tear apart the replacement from a donor.

    Thanks again guys.

Walt did your piece fit well? Do you remember where you got it? There seem to be a few out there. Would like to get the best fitting one.

    Thanks

Yes, it did fit well. I thought the edges weren't as crisp as the original, but it's tough to be sure.
There's likely to be more than one company making these, and then sold by dozens of outlets.
I have a pic of the sticker on file, shows it's made by EMI (Experi-Metal Inc) and sold through many distributors such as Sherman and Associates. It's pn 706-43A, 'Dash panel reinforcement'. Made in USA.
    It's bare metal, doesn't have the e-coat.
The 'dash panel' that did not fit was pn 706-43. defroster vents are different.

Ed, yes I miss seeing you down here. I am doing fine. Looks like we are both starting a 66/7 restro. Mine is almost rust free, but some damage. Just about got it all stripped. The frame should go to the power coater after the first of the year and the body to the my friends shop. The body is stripped and on the trailer for delivery. Got the core support, inner and outer fenders, stripped and epoxy primed and top coated the inside of the fenders and inner fenders and core support. I have parts hanging all over the basement.

If your windshield rot is any worse than the one Walt had, you may want to consider using one of you nice OEM one's.

Walt, nice pictures on 65GS, thanks.
