1967 riviera hideaway headlights

Discussion in 'Chassis restoration' started by Justin Solomon, May 22, 2017.

  1. Hello. Im new to this group, anf I have a 67 riviera that I'm starting to work on. The hideaway headlights don't work when I turn the headlights on. I have put power directly to the motor and they open and close properly. If i manually open them, when I kill power at the headlight switch, they will close but not open back up by turning on the light switch. Any ideas? Should I start by replacing the headlight switch?

I just took a look at the wiring diagram. From my quick look, the headlight relay has a normally closed and normally open terminals. There's only one wire coming off the switch. Id probably start diagnosing at the relay myself.

  3. Ok thanks. I appreciate the info.

The issue is probably in the relay. Change it out, and the headlights should deploy/retract fine.

I've still got the stock headlight relay in my 67, but I've had to change the horn relay before.

  5. Thanks. Do you know the location of that relay right off hand?

I'm not sure...it may be near the front of the vehicle on the passenger side. Check the wires from the headlight motor, and follow them back.

From the diagram, there are 2- the main and the auxiliary. Im leaning to the main being the culprit

[IMG] When I converted my 68 from vac to electric I used one of these. Pulled switched power off the dimmer switch lead.

Relay on driver side firewall corner is for down. Way over between hood hinge mount and fender. Often if they don't come down just tap on this relay with key on and switch on. If that works the relay can be carefully taken apart and contacts cleaned.

Auxiliary relay for up is on right front inner fender.

  13. Thanks for all of the info I'm going to try to figure it out today.
