What type of a console are you looking for? I am guessing everyone is curious on this one? Are you looking for a type 1 or 2 storage console (small, plastic with a padded top. Mounts in between the bucket seats) or a BUICK 4 speed console (which is called a consolette)? For 1968, the ONLY 2 ways you got a 4 speed from the factory was either a plain rubber boot around the base of the shifter handle OR the optional consolette- which is what Mike is selling. o No:
Thanks Chris I thought that might be the case as mike still had it but thought I would ask just in case
Not sure of the mounting, I never got that far but I'm sure that a schematic could be found easily enough. I did buy it for a bench seat car and am sure it would fit. In the end I decided not to install it because it would not have been correct because they didin't offer it in a bench seat. Unfortunately, this was the only way I think you could get a factory tach into a 68GS so I guess that means if you have bench seats you have no tach options aside from an aftermarket set up.
Thanks Mike I dont think I would want it if not correct for my bench seat (Iam sure you might recognize the bench seat car Iam talking about)
Ha! I just put 2 + 2 together. Hope you're enjoying the car. The chrome trim rings on the wheels I added weren't right either but I thought it looked a lot better with them. They're easy to take off anytime you want to. It's a time capsule, isn't it. Congrats on getting it.
I really like the rings so there staying, People either love or dont the dog dish look but I think it goes so well on what the car is. Love the car in fact takeing it to the friday night local cruise in in just a bit.It gets lots of attention from people that know what it is and see how its optioned and than I tell the short version of the history and they are amazed. thanks
You might want to ask around whether the body colored wheels are right. When I re-did a 70GS Stage1 with dog dish rims Duane said they should be black although the car was white with brown vinyl top and tan interior. So after that I always wondered whether the 68GS steel wheels should be body color or not to be "correct". According to legend, the car was found by a guy that mostly was into Chevies who had it resprayed original color and maybe he didn't follow the Buick rules on the wheels. He put on white letter tires which I flipped backwards because they weren't right and looked stupid to me with the steel wheels. Aside from that though I think it's pretty much all original top to bottom.
