    Hi all,

I am new to the forum and am about to commit to a 68 GS400 vert. I own 2 w30's and owned a 69 GS years ago with an Olds 403.

I have grown rather particular in my years and as such am trying to determine whether the engine is original in the suspect vehicle. The seller has made an attempt at locating the engine ID between 1st and 3rd plug on drivers side and tells me he finds nothing. I have read that if the block was decked those numbers may be gone forever. I have seen threads that tell of other ID locations such as on front of block near # 1 cylinder, more or less behind the power steering.

the car is otherwise apparently original. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

have him check the passenger side, I have found numbers on 68's on that side instead of the driver's side before.

Mine are on the passenger side between the last two spark plugs. 180 deg from where they should be.

Both of my '68s were on the left rear (kinda where there supposed to be). Both my cars were built in Flint. These cars that have the VIN somewhere else--where were they built? Since this had to be done on the assembly line, plant variances could explain it.
