1969 seat belts... what goes where?

I am trying to decipher the numbers on my 1969 GS belts. Can someone tell me what lengths go where in the car? And/or can I tell from the codes? I have found info on other GM cars but none for Buick Skylark/GS.

Also, what is a good dye to use? They are black.

Wash them with hot soapy water, rinse with hot water....let dry....use SEM Landau Black to dye them.

Belts are in no particular order......need to know if you have buckets or bench.

    Thanks for the reply.

I did wash them. Some are a little faded. I will try the SEM.

It is a split bench. I see the longer ones go up front and the shorter in back. Are belt model numbers generally the same in each car they are installed in? Mine are all '69 but some are different model #s. I know it's not a big deal unless I'm doing a concourse restore, I was just trying to match them as close as possible.

Yes, the date codes will be fairly close such as 3A69, 4A69 etc.
Belt numbers will be 4912, 4952 etc...same belts just different lengths.

Okay, so I have 38A69 w/model# 4911 in rear and 46A69 w/model# 5901 in front. I take it these should both be model 4*** or 5*** to be matching sets. Is that correct? Or did GM just mix and match whatever was available?

They are all standard belts with the blue and silver pushbutton.

Looks like you have the original belts for your car....you are set.

You can also remove the textured cover if they look worn....beadblast and paint satin black.

Except I have 2 '69 pass. side retractors. And there are 2 '68 retractors on the car now. I guess I'll have to find a '69 drivers side.

By the way, do the belts in the retractors pull from the outside of the retractor (from door side of car) when installed correctly?

yes, the belt opening is closest to the door panel for the retractors and they pull from the outside as you stated.

First take the belts apart, then I used a 5 gal bucket with the hotest water I could get, soap, and fabric softener. Then rinse with hot water until the water runs clear.

I used liquid RID (Walmart), used the whole bottle, follow directions. Let dry and reassemble the belts.

    4911 Rears
    4951 Shoulder
4901 Bucket Seats, I had a GS350 bench had the same belts with 4911 in the middle.

I had a vert that had 5901's in the front (Bucket seats as well).

I restored two sets, kept the best and ebayed the second set :)

    Couple of pictures :beer
